Anastasia instinctively turned her head.
Beyond the crowd, Mr. Cooper, who had slipped away at some point, was now respectfully escorting Harrison toward them.
A grin instantly spread across her face. She rushed toward him. “Hubby!”
During the conference, Harrison had been too far away for her to reach. Now that they were finally together, she threw herself into his arms without a second thought for the dozens of eyes on them.
A slight curve appeared on Harrison’s lips as he steadied her, his arm wrapping around her waist.
Her action drew everyone’s attention to Harrison. Some recognized him, their expressions shifting immediately. Most, however, looked at the newcomer with a sense of apprehension. They didn’t know who Harrison was, but they knew Mr. Cooper. A man who could make Mr. Cooper grovel had to be someone extraordinary. Not to mention Harrison’s commanding presence, the sheer power in his gaze that sent a shiver down their spines.
Seeing Harrison, Lauren’s heart constricted. She tried to slip away while no one was watching.
But Harrison’s gaze flicked toward her. “Stop her,” he commanded coolly.
Two towering bodyguards immediately blocked Lauren’s path.
Everyone’s attention snapped back to her.

Harrison ignored her, not even gracing her with a glance. “What’s the status?” he asked Logan.
Logan immediately looked down at his phone.
Lauren’s heart began to hammer against her ribs. Her voice grew heavy. “Mr Lancaster! I know the Lancaster family is powerful, but does that give you the right to detain people against their will and disregard a patient’s life?!
The audience was filled with medical professionals, people who had dedicated their lives to saving others. Lauren’s words struck a chord, and their expressions soured.
The industry titan who had once admired Lauren stepped forward. “Mr. Lancaster, I don’t know who you are, but your methods are tyrannical and unreasonable!”
Another voice joined in. “Exactly! This is a society of laws. What do you think you’re doing, holding her here like this?”
Hearing her husband being
criticized, Anastasia’s brow
furrowed. She stepped in front of Harrison m a protective stance “Everyone, my hubby is just trying to find the truth for me. He didn’t know Lauren had a patient. You shouldn’t speak to him like that!”
Her intervention softened the crowd’s anger. They might not know Harrison, but they had to give her face.
“We overreacted,” one of them conceded. “But Anastasia, Lauren has a patient who can’t wait. You need to have Mr. Lancaster let her go.”
Anastasia opened her mouth to reply, but a hand rested on her shoulder as Harrison pulled her back into his embrace.
She tilted her head, looking up at him quizzically. “Hubby, what is it?”
“It’s nothing,” Harrison murmured, the corner of his lip twitching into a nearly imperceptible smile. The sight of Anastasia leaping to his defense was incredibly endearing. But this wasn’t a fight she needed to shield him from.
“Ms. Brennan,” he said, his eyes finally landing on Lauren. “This patient you mentioned. Who are they? What is their age and name?”
Under his intense gaze, Lauren’s entire body tensed. She knew he was calling her bluff.
