Chapter 954
At the time, Mr. Hill Sr. was the patriarch of the family. He collapsed from the shock of the betrayal, and when he woke, only his eldest son and daughter-in-law- Lester’s parents-remained by his side.
In those dark times, it was Mignon and her husband who stood by the old man, helping him navigate the crisis. With most of the family’s capital gone, they endured years of hardship. The strain took a heavy toll on Lester’s father, whose poor health led to an early death.
Although the Hill family pulled through, they were a shadow of their former selves. Their company, for instance, was lost in the turmoil.
The upheaval left the patriarch’s health shattered. After Lester was born, Mr. Hill Sr. became bedridden, and the weight of the entire family fell on Mignon’s shoulders.
Mignon never once complained. Through sheer determination, she managed to buy back the company, and from that point on, the family’s fortunes slowly began to
recover.
Just as things were looking up, the very relatives who had abandoned them and moved abroad returned.
Having squandered their fortunes on failed investments, they came back claiming they wanted to fulfill their filial duties.
Lester’s father had only recently passed away, leaving the old couple deep in grief. Mrs. Hill Sr., who had always favored her other two sons, couldn’t find it in her heart to turn them away. And so, they were welcomed back into the Hill family.
These two branches of the family have been a constant source of trouble ever since. They were the ones who orchestrated sending young Lester away to a monastery, and with the matriarch’s protection, Mignon was powerless to stop them.
In the end, she had to make the painful decision to send her son away, steeling herself to finally bring order to the Hill family.
Without Lester as a vulnerability they could exploit, her brothers-in-law were no match for her. The years that followed were, for the most part, peaceful.
But now, it seemed they were getting restless again. They conveniently chose to forget that the family assets had long been divided, and that the current Hill Group had absolutely nothing to do with them. Yet, they were brazenly attempting to claim a stake in the company!
The matriarch, as always, took their side. Whenever the topic arose, she would resort to tears, asking her husband if he could really bear to watch his own sons starve.
Mignon knew perfectly well that the question wasn’t for her father-in-law—it was for her.
But the family fortune had already been divided into three, with those two taking the lion’s share. The current Hill Group was the one she. had bought back and painstakingly built up. What did it have to do with them? It was laughable that the matriarch had the audacity to suggest splitting the company’s
shares into three equal parts again!
Fortunately, her father-in-law saw the situation clearly and had always supported
her.
Mignon didn’t hide these family matters from her son. She wanted him to
understand that these relatives were not his allies and that he shouldn’t hesitate to be firm when the time came.
She noticed, however, that Lester seemed somewhat distracted.
“What are you thinking about?” she asked with concern.
Lester hesitated for a moment before replying, “I have no interest in Ms. Lawson. Meeting her will only lead to the same outcome. You just

At this, Mignon suddenly fell silent.
She looked at her son, a rare hint of sadness clouding her usually sharp features.
After a moment, she sighed. “Let’s give it two more years. If we still haven’t found Wilma’s child by the time you’re twenty-eight, I’ll start considering other
