Chapter 132
Nora couldn’t help but smirk inwardly, a cold satisfaction flickering in her eyes.
Just watch, she thought. Didn’t I say this would happen? As soon as Mr. Harrison Lancaster found out what kind of person that little brat really was, there’s no way he’d just brush it off.
Anastasia rushed to explain.
“I”
“Didn’t you have people handle it already?” Harrison’s tone was mild but carried a chill. “You shouldn’t do these things yourself. What if you’d gotten hurt?”
He paused, eyebrows faintly drawn. “Or was it that you didn’t bring enough people with you last time?”
Huh?” Anastasia blinked, momentarily lost for words.
Mr. Harrison Lancaster?” Nora’s face stiffened, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her features.
“How are the Sinclairs now?” Harrison asked, as if he hadn’t noticed her discomfort.
Nora jumped in at once. “My mother’s still in the hospital, you know. The doctors say she won’t be able to get out of bed for at least a month or two. And my brother -Anastasia’s people broke his leg! The whole family’s crammed into this tiny apartment I had to rent for them. It’s miserable
Anastasia couldn’t help rolling her eyes.
A month or two bedridden? Mrs. Sinclair just took a tumble! Wasn’t she fine and walking around afterward?
And Julian-she’d slapped him a few times, and now suddenly he had a broken leg? That was news to her!
She was about to say something when Harrison spoke first. “That’s all?”
His tone was almost disappointed, even a little annoyed.
“Mr. Harrison Lancaster Nora’s expression froze again.
What did he mean, that’s all? Hadn’t he heard what she just said?
Anastasia had supposedly sent her mother and brother to the hospital! And look
at how her brother’s family was living now-no more sports cars, no more mansion, forced to buy clothes off the rack, squeezed into a shabby little apartment she’d barely managed to find for them!
And all of it, every bit, was Anastasia’s fault!
—If Anastasia could hear Nora’s inner monologue, she’d probably die laughing.
Sports cars, mansions? Did Nora really remember what the Sinclairs’ life was like before her mother got involved?
If it weren’t for her mom, the Sinclairs would still be scraping by on odd jobs and hand-me-downs.
Use something long enough that never belonged to you, and you start to think it’s yours by right? Please.
“Paying back what you owe is only fair,” Harrison’s handsome face darkened. “If you didn’t have the means, why borrow in the first place? Or did you think Ana was just too soft, too easy to take advantage of?”
The pressure in the room became almost tangible, and a bead of sweat slid down Nora’s temple.
She forced herself to speak. “But, Mr. Harrison Lancaster, my mother and my brother-they’re Anastasia’s grandmother and uncle! They’ve treated her so well all these years, and she doesn’t care at all about family-”
“You’re just Ana’s stepmother. Since when did your mother or your brother have the right to call themselves her grandmother or uncle?”
Nora’s argument died in her throat. Her face turned an ugly shade somewhere between pale and beet red.
“And as for family? All those ‘good years’—you mean the years of wringing money out of Ana?”
Nora was left speechless, her face a storm of humiliation and rage.
“Hubby!” Anastasia wrapped her arms around Harrison’s, her eyes sparkling with admiration—and shock. She’d never expected him to stand up for her like this.
Seeing the look on Nora’s face, she nearly burst out laughing.
Harrison glanced down, meeting the girl’s bright gaze and delicate features. Something dark and protective flickered in his eyes. Fınd the newest release on ⓝovelFind.net
How many years had his little wife endured this kind of humiliation? How had she tolerated being trampled on by such a petty stepmother and those grasping relatives?
