Chapter 188
She stretched her hand out again, all magnanimity. “Go on, cut it.”
Thomas could hardly believe his eyes.
Wasn’t Mr. Harrison Lancaster notorious for his impatience with women’s unreasonable demands? Yet, this woman had just made a completely absurd request, and instead of getting angry, he was actually indulging her?
“Cut it,” Anastasia said lazily, nestled comfortably in Harrison’s arms. She tilted her delicate chin, her tone light and unhurried.
She saw right through whatever Thomas was thinking, a wicked, triumphant smirk curling her lips.
That’s right. Mr. Harrison Lancaster spoils me. He never gets mad at me. What are you going to do about it? Bite me?
Thomas nearly exploded at her infuriating expression.
He drew in a deep breath, barely managing to tamp down his irritation. Fighting the urge to snap at her, he went ahead and cut open her bandage. Official source ıs.net
When he saw the wound-which, truth be told, looked like it might have healed in another day or two-he fell silent.
-This was the so-called “serious injury” Mr. Harrison Lancaster had specially called him over to examine?
“Thomas?” Harrison’s tone was sharp as he frowned, clearly displeased by Thomas’s hesitation.
Thomas forced a smile. “I’ll take care of Lady Lancaster right away!”
Anastasia watched Thomas’s handsome face twist with frustration, and her mood soared. She felt like she could eat an extra helping at dinner, just from the satisfaction.
That afternoon, Anastasia still had classes. After lunch, she and Harrison shared a blissful nap, then she left for campus in high spirits.
Tomorrow was the weekend, which meant heading home to Rosewood Manor. As luxurious as this temporary apartment was, nothing really compared to the comfort of home.
Harrison didn’t have any pressing matters, so he’d planned to wait for her and drive back together. But after just one class, Anastasia got a message from Logan: Mr. Harrison Lancaster had an unexpected engagement and had left first, but he’d arranged for a driver to wait for her.
She felt a twinge of disappointment, though the thought of seeing him at home soon enough cheered her up.
Still, curiosity gnawed at her. What had come up for Harrison?
Meanwhile, at Rosewood Manor-
“Harrison, you haven’t tossed your wheelchair, have you? You don’t need it anymore, so why not pass it along to me?”
The lazy drawl belonged to a strikingly handsome man, lounging with the air of someone used to getting his way. His lips were curled in a habitual smirk, eyes sparkling with mischief and charm-the sort of man women found dangerously appealing.
The only flaw was the wheelchair he sat in.
From his armchair, Harrison regarded Marcus in silence, his presence dark and imposing.
He glanced at Marcus’s legs, a cold glint flashing in his eyes. “Who did this to you?”
Marcus froze, then let out a bitter laugh, his mood dimming. “Harrison, I know what you’re thinking. I suspected foul play at first too. But my parents hired every specialist they could find, ran every test imaginable. In the end, the doctors agreed-it’s genetic.”
“It happened out of nowhere, and I hadn’t eaten anything strange. I guess it really is just bad luck. There’s a history of it somewhere in the family, but it’s rare. Figures I’d be the unlucky one.”
Harrison’s brow furrowed. “Nothing you can do?”
“We’ve seen everyone. If there was a cure, I wouldn’t be here now.” Marcus gave a self-deprecating chuckle, but quickly shrugged off the gloom. “Enough about that. Harrison, where’s your wife? Are you really going to keep her hidden? I’ve been dying to meet her!”
At that moment, a bright, cheerful voice rang out from the hall, growing nearer. “Honey, I’m home!”
Harrison’s stern expression instantly softened. He glanced at the clock. “She’s back from class.”
Marcus caught the tenderness that slipped unbidden into Harrison’s eyes and stared at him in disbelief, then looked eagerly toward the door-
