Maggie cast a cautious glance at the man standing beside her, her voice a little stiff. “We were worried about you, so we came to check on you.”
They’d seen Anastasia nearly fall from the stands earlier. Though someone had caught her, she’d been carried away in someone’s arms, which got them worrying if she’d gotten hurt.
When they saw Alice hurrying toward the hospital with her usual entourage, their concern only deepened, so they’d tagged along.
Who could’ve guessed they’d stumble on a dramatic scene like this?
Alice-who everyone thought was the heiress-turned out to be the housekeeper’s daughter, and all those flashy cars she flaunted were just borrowed!
And the legendary big shot everyone assumed Alice was close to? He had nothing to do with her. In fact, it was Anastasia—the girl everyone whispered was “the other woman”-who turned out to be his wife!
What’s more, this guy’s status seemed to be extraordinary. Even their headmaster had treated him with the utmost respect, practically bowing and scraping.
Sandra, whose family was fairly well-off, had pieced together a few things about the man on the way over. She’d whispered that he was ruthless, cold, and had no patience for women-he supposedly never even bothered to acknowledge them. They’d all been worrying themselves sick for Anastasia. But when they reached the door, they saw Anastasia playfully pouting and complaining, asking the man to peel her an apple, while he indulged her every whim without hesitation.
This was nothing like what Sandra had described!
Even Sandra was left speechless.
Since the room was already crowded, none of them dared to go in, so they’d lingered awkwardly by the door, debating if they should slip away unnoticed-until Anastasia spotted them.
“I’m fine, really! Come in, you guys!” Anastasia called out.
Maggie and the others glanced fearfully at Harrison, too intimidated to move.
Part of it was Sandra’s relentless warnings; the other part was simply the man’s overwhelming presence.
Noticing their hesitation, Anastasia tugged on Harrison’s arm and cooed, “Honey, these are my classmates-my best friends at school!”
Harrison nodded coolly and looked toward the doorway. “Come on in,” he said.
Only then did Maggie and the others tiptoe into the hospital room.
“Anastasia, your foot… is it okay?” Maggie asked, her voice full of concern as she noticed Anastasia’s ankle wrapped and treated.
Anastasia shot a quick, guilty glance at Harrison and cleared her throat. “It’s nothing just a little twist. The doctor said I’ll be fine in a couple of days
The fall had been intentional, but the twisted ankle definitely wasn’t!
After a few minutes of conversation, and seeing for themselves that Anastasia really was okay, Maggie cleared her throat. “Well, we should get going. We’ll see you back at school!”
Anastasia looked disappointed. “You’re leaving already?”
She wasn’t sure she could handle Harrison’s intimidating silence on her own. It was such a relief to have other people around-at least with company, he wouldn’t start scolding her. But now, after only a few minutes, her friends were already heading out!
Maggie didn’t quite understand the pleading look Anastasia gave her, but honestly, none of them dared stay a second longer.
Anastasia’s husband was just too intimidating. Even sharing the same space with him, they felt like they were under crushing pressure.

The others chimed in too. “Yeah, what’s up with that? Why does the headmaster treat Anastasia’s boyfriend with so much respect?”
Every time his name came up, people grew oddly silent. Even during the school’s anniversary ceremony-when Anastasia’s boyfriend was introduced-there was something distinctly different about the way the emcee spoke about him.
