Harrison Lancaster had once heard that, apparently, the 14th of every month was considered Valentine’s Day.

Anastasia glanced at her phone calendar-and suddenly, everything clicked.
She had thought about Valentine’s Day, of course. But both Valentine’s Day in February and the so-called “Eastern Valentine’s Day” were long gone, so she’d just let it slip from her mind.
What she’d forgotten was that, in the West, Valentine’s Day is almost a dime a dozen-every 14th could count if you wanted it to. Most people who’ve dated before probably don’t care; they just celebrate February 14th and move on. But her husband? He’d barely dated before-they were each other’s firsts. He didn’t know the unwritten rules. So when he heard “the 14th is always Valentine’s,” of course he took it seriously.
Suddenly, she understood why Harrison seemed a little off today.
He’d taken the time to plan a Valentine’s surprise for her, only for her to completely miss what day it was. That would be bad enough, but it also meant she hadn’t gotten him anything-not even a card.
“Darling—” Anastasia rushed to catch up, grabbing his arm and halting his long stride.
“What is it?” He stopped immediately-her sudden motion made him worry she’d trip over his pace.
His jaw was set, his expression cool. To anyone else, he might have seemed cold, but Anastasia could see the gentleness behind his caution. Her heart melted with sweetness. Harrison looked into her clear, beautiful eyes, and any trace of annoyance simply melted away. He turned his gaze aside. “It’s fine,” he said, his tone clipped, as if it didn’t matter-but Anastasia knew better.
If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t have been upset.

Anastasia fluttered her eyelashes at him, coaxing, “Close your eyes, please?”
He watched her for a moment, then shut his deep, dark eyes, indulging her childish game.
Her heart pounded. She fixed her gaze on his tempting lips, rose up on tiptoe, and pressed a tender, careful kiss there.
Harrison’s eyes flew open, a storm flickering in their depths. Anastasia’s own heart skipped a beat, as if he’d stolen it right out of her chest.
She pulled away quickly, cheeks burning, but forced herself to look up at him, earnest and bright. “It’s a simple gift, I know. I’ll do better next time. But… did you like it?”
Harrison swallowed, watching the blush creep over her ears as she tried to play it cool. A slow, smoldering heat flickered in his eyes.
“I liked it,” his voice was thick and rough, “but… it’s not enough.” He caught her chin between his fingers, his dark gaze growing intense.
Anastasia’s mind went blank. Before she could protest, he pulled her firmly into his arms, tilting her face up for a kiss that left no room for resistance.
Her eyes widened in shock-They were still at the front door!
But the moment she tried to wriggle free, Harrison’s hold only tightened. All she could do was melt against him, utterly at his mercy.
Thankfully, he hadn’t lost all sense-he wasn’t about to let the neighbors catch a show. After a few breathless moments, he swept her up and carried her inside, slamming the door behind them.
