“Oh, sorry, my mistake,” Anastasia’s clear, melodic voice rang out, loud enough for the whole crowd to hear. “I got it wrong. You never had a mother, did you? You were a child my mom took in from the orphanage. If it weren’t for her, you would’ve starved or died of sickness long ago.”
She smiled at Lauren, but her eyes were cold as steel. “You know, you were right about one thing: a fake will always be a fake. No matter how hard you try, you’ll never become the real thing. So stop telling everyone you’re the daughter of the divine healer, Cecilia Brennan!”
“There’s only one daughter of Cecilia Brennan—and her name is Anastasia. Not Lauren.”

Before today, Lauren had imagined every possible move Anastasia might make. She’d always assumed that, if the truth about their origins ever came out, Anastasia would at least pick her moment carefully—and Lauren had sworn never to give her that chance.
But she never expected Anastasia to strike so quickly, without warning.
The scene was chaos, but Anastasia remained untouched, her bodyguards forming a seamless shield around her.
Standing on the steps, she looked out over the crowd and spotted Harrison in the back seat of a parked car. Meeting his gentle gaze, she smiled and flashed him a quick victory sign before turning, in high spirits, and striding into the Global Harmony Medical Institute.
As for Lauren-surrounded by shouting reporters-Anastasia didn’t spare her a single glance.
In the past, she hadn’t cared. Her world had always revolved around the Sterling family’s little sphere—and that useless jerk Aaron Lancaster-so she never bothered with what Lauren took from her or how she flaunted herself in public.
But things were different now. She wanted everything that was hers back-and Lauren would have to return it all, piece by piece.
The look on Lauren’s face a moment ago had been almost comical. She’d probably thought the secret of their true identities was safe for now.
