Chapter 440
The butler frowned slightly and nodded.
But as he walked away, he reconsidered and ordered someone to prepare the medicine anyway.
It didn’t matter if it wasn’t needed; the gesture itself was important. He didn’t want to risk upsetting Ms. Sterling.
In any case, once Ms. Brennan arrived, the young master would probably wake up, and the medicine would go unused.
-After all, when Ms. Brennan left last time, she’d shown such unshakable confidence. This time, things should go smoothly!
Inside the room.
Anastasia sat off to one side, waiting patiently as the butler prepared everything she’d requested.
She ignored Lauren, but Lauren couldn’t resist needling her. “I honestly thought you had at least some real skill,” she scoffed, shaking her head with such disappointment it was as if Anastasia were utterly worthless.
Anastasia glanced up, lips curling in a wry smile. “Funny. I thought you had a bit of real skill yourself.”
From what Cora and the others had said, Lauren seemed utterly sure of herself regarding Mr. Calderon’s condition, as if she had every confidence she could rouse him.
Anastasia had half believed it, too.
But hearing Lauren’s adamant “no medicine” order told her everything she needed to know. She scoffed inwardly-so much for all that bravado.
Lauren’s expression darkened. “My abilities aren’t for you to judge. I’ll show you with results-there’s a reason I’m the heir to Health Virtuoso, and you’re not.”
With that, she strode confidently to the bedside. Fınd the newest release on (.)net
She took Mr. Calderon’s pulse, as was customary, then produced a set of fine needles and prepared to begin her treatment.
The butler rushed over with his assistants, eager to help.
As Lauren deftly inserted the needles, Cora and the others watched with rapt attention, hoping to learn something. Mr. Evert looked on with pride at his star pupil, while the butler and his staff hovered between nerves and hope.
Once Anastasia saw which points Lauren was targeting, she couldn’t help but let out a short, derisive laugh.
Cora couldn’t hold back her curiosity. “What’s so funny?”
Anastasia shook her head, then declared, “Lauren, doing it your way he can’t be saved.”
Mr. Evert’s face darkened in an instant. “What nonsense are you spouting? If Lauren can’t save him, do you think you can?”

When Lauren finished, a faint expression flickered across Mr. Calderon’s features. The butler was beside himself with excitement.
Lauren spoke with calm assurance. “Once I remove the needles, Mr. Calderon will regain consciousness.”
The butler nodded eagerly. “Yes, yes!”
Mr. Evert nodded too, pride shining in his eyes as he looked at Lauren-his most promising student.
Cora and Erin gazed at her in admiration. She really was in a class of her own.
Lauren began removing the needles.
Everyone watched, anxiety mounting with every needle she withdrew.
At last, the final needle came out.
Suddenly, Mr. Calderon gave a faint groan.
The butler’s eyes lit up. “Sir—!”
But before anyone could react, Mr. Calderon coughed up a mouthful of blood. His
face drained of color, turning ashen before their eyes.
You could almost see the life ebbing out of him.
Lauren’s expression changed instantly. “How-how could this happen?”
She looked in panic at Mr. Evert. “Professor!”
Mr. Evert lunged forward, snatching the needles from her hands and swiftly applying a few himself.
A moment later, beads of cold sweat
dotted his brow. Looking down at Mr. Calderon, whose breath was
barely perceptible his face went deathly pale. It’s too late.
The butler’s voice broke. “What do you mean, too late?! Ms. Brennan, didn’t you
say our young master would wake up for sure?!”
In the midst of the chaos, a gentle yet commanding voice suddenly rang out-
“Step aside!”
