Chapter 515
Anastasia was stunned. “Grandma?”
Mrs. Brennan’s eyes welled up again. “It’s my fault you’ve suffered so much,” she said, her voice choked with guilt. “I know what Lauren did. I always thought she was a good girl, but I never imagined she would covet your inheritance and scheme against you.”
“I had set aside some Brennan Group shares for you, but there’s no need to wait. You can have them now.” In her mind, even giving Anastasia everything she owned couldn’t make up for the pain her granddaughter had endured.
Anastasia was deeply moved, but a quick glance at the documents showed the immense value of the assets-it was nearly half of the Brennan family’s fortune. She shook her head. “Grandma, I know you love me, but this is too much. Just give me the same share you gave the others.”
Hearing her think of her cousins even now, Mrs. Brennan smiled fondly, stroking her hair. “I knew you were a kind soul, my Ana. But don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten Benson and Juliet. Their shares were already allocated before I came here.”
“But this is still far too much,” Anastasia protested. The shares for Benson and Juliet combined probably didn’t equal what she was being offered.
“It’s settled. I discussed it with them, and they both agreed. Ask them yourself if you don’t believe me.”
Anastasia looked at her cousins.
“Of course, I agreed!” Juliet said immediately. “Grandma asked me beforehand. I have no objections at all. Just take it, Anastasia!”
Benson seemed distracted. When he met her gaze, he looked away, his lips pressed into a thin line. “I have no objections either,” he muttered.
Mrs. Brennan smiled, relieved. “They are good children. They care for you too. Now, sign the papers.”
Anastasia looked from the thick stack of documents to the love in her grandmother’s eyes. Overwhelmed with emotion, she finally nodded. “Okay
She took the pen and signed her name.
Only then did Mrs. Brennan’s smile return.
“What about Lauren?” Anastasia asked, as if it were an afterthought.
The smile faded from her grandmother’s face. “The shares I gave her have been taken back by your grandfather. I won’t be giving her any more. They will go to you.” She sighed. “I don’t know when that girl changed so much. Perhaps shë just lost her way. But your
grandfather is right. She needs to do some serious soul-searching.”
Anastasia could hear the disappointment in her voice. The affection was still
there, but it was not what it once was. She smiled secretly.

Mrs. Brennan had been lost in thought, wondering how Lauren had gone so astray, but Anastasia’s question snapped her back to reality. Seeing the cautious, hesitant look in her granddaughter’s eyes, her heart ached.
“These are my assets,” she declared firmly. “I can give them to whomever I please. You are my flesh and blood. Lauren has no right to object.”
