Chapter 696
“Okay, I have to go catch up with them. We’ll talk later!” Gwen said, glancing ahead nervously before hurrying off.
Anastasia nodded.
As Gwen rejoined the group, she quietly asked one of the other girls, “Who exactly is Monica’s boyfriend from the Lancaster family?”
“You don’t know? You know Ryan Lancaster, right? Monica’s boyfriend is his son!”
Gwen gasped. Ryan’s son? That would make him Harrison Lancaster’s brother. Monica’s boyfriend was that important?
“And have you heard?” the girl continued in a hushed tone. “They say Harrison Lancaster’s health is failing. He could be gone at any time. When that happens, the family will need a new heir, and it’ll most likely be Monica’s boyfriend!”
Another girl chimed in. “Oh my god, so Monica could be the future head of the Lancaster family’s wife?”
Their voices were low, but Monica, glancing back, caught a few words and guessed what they were talking about. She didn’t stop them. Instead, she lifted her chin, a smug smile playing on her lips. Seeing this, one of the girls took the opportunity to shower her with flattery, which Monica graciously accepted.
Feeling pleased, she announced, “It’s my boyfriend’s birthday tomorrow. You should all come to the party.”
The group erupted in excitement.
“Oh, Monica, you’re the best!”
“I can’t believe I get to go to a Lancaster’s birthday party!”
Their reactions only boosted Monica’s ego. “Normally, people of your status wouldn’t
be invited to an event like this,” she said condescendingly. “But you’re my friends. I’ll just have a word with Lennon; he won’t mind.”
“Oh, and Gwen,” she added, turning to her. “You were right. We are old classmates. I can’t just stand by while Anastasia is struggling. Lerner know that I can get her a spot as a server at the party.”
She smirked. “The Lancasters are generous. The pay for servers ata high-class party like this is excellent. It’ll probably cover her rent for a few months. Tell her she doesn theed to thank me.”
Gwen’s smile was stiff and awkward.
The others, however, laughed. “I hear you have to go through a rigorous screening process to be a server at these events. She should be on her knees thanking you for the opportunity!”

Later that afternoon, Anastasia headed back to the Lancaster Group tower to go home with Harrison.
When he saw her in his office, Harrison pushed all thoughts of work from his mind and pulled her into his arms. “Where did you go?”
“Just out for a walk. I ran into an old classmate from high school,” she told him honestly. Newest update provıded by
He stroked her cheek. “Next time you go out, tell Logan. I want him to have someone follow you. I worry otherwise.”
Anastasia looked up, surprised. “Worry about what?”
“Your husband has a lot of enemies,” he said lightly. “Some of them might not have the guts to come after me directly, but if they find out who are, they might try to get to you.”
Really?” What kind of enemy would be so brazen? Weren’t they afraid of his retaliation if something happened to her?
“The smart ones would be, but not everyone is smart.”
