Chapter 809
After presenting her invitation, she entered smoothly and began scanning the room for Bruno, when a shocked voice cried out-
“Anastasia? What are you doing here?!”
Anastasia turned to see the astonished face of Queena, and a frowning George beside her.
Unsurprised, she calmly retorted, “Why can’t I be here?”
The gathering wasn’t large, and Queena’s unrestrained cry of shock had already drawn several glances.
Queena’s mind raced. Suddenly, her expression hardened. “Anastasia, I know the Lancaster family is powerful, but look at where you are! Is this a place for you to cause trouble?”
“Get out now while you still can! Don’t disturb the professors’ gathering!”
A staff member, hearing the commotion, approached them politely. “Is there anything I can help you with?”
Before Anastasia could speak, Queena cut in, “You’re just in time. This young lady doesn’t have an invitation. I don’t know how she snuck in, but please escort her out!”
The staff member looked at Anastasia in surprise.
Anastasia remained perfectly calm. “If I didn’t have an invitation, how would I have gotten in?”
Queena frowned. That was what she couldn’t understand either.
But she absolutely refused to believe that Anastasia had received an invitation!
She had spent years building her reputation in Riverton and had George working tirelessly to secure this one opportunity for her. On what grounds did Anastasia deserve one?
So she declared, “You must have forged it. Anastasia, I understand you’re upset that I received an invitation
and you didn’t, but this net
sn’t like those high-society parties you’re used to. You can’t just sneak in here!”
She was so certain Anastasia was fraud that her tone was laced with
sa
unconcealed, condescending disdain, and she made no effor
lower her voice.
Now, everyone nearby had heard.
“What? Someone forged an invitation?”
Countless probing eyes turned towards Anastasia.
The staff member walked directly up to Anastasia. “Excuse me, miss. May I see your invitation, please?”
To be asked by staff to show an invitation in front of so many people—if it really was
a fake, the humiliation would be immense.
Queena’s lips curled into a smirk.
Anastasia calmly told the staff member, “Of course.”
She reached into her purse, and as she pulled out one invitation, another one fell out with it.
“Two?” Queena laughed. “I guess when they’re fake, you can have as many as you want.”
Anastasia glanced at her. “Whether they’re real or fake can be
determined by an inspection. Sterling hasn’t even seen them, sa
you shouldn’t be so certain. It’s
rather embarrassing.”
Queena’s face flushed. She hadn’t expected Anastasia to be so blunt in front of everyone.
“Please, check them,” Anastasia said, handing both invitations to the staff member.
The staff member examined them carefully, back and front, twice. A look of surprise appeared on his face.
