Chapter 838
Logan went to carry out his orders. Anastasia was holding Harrison’s arm, ready to leave, when she noticed Crystal and Lennon arguing a short distance away. Lennon then stormed into a nearby room, with Crystal following close behind him.
She frowned and tugged on Harrison’s sleeve. “Let’s go see what that’s about.”
Inside the room.
Carter sat by the window, his thin frame looking even more fragile in the oversized hospital gown. He held a book, absorbed in his own quiet world.
Standing beside him was Lennon, arrogant, angry, and demanding.
“… You need to go ask that old man from the Lancaster family for more money! What we got before wasn’t nearly enough. I have to pay compensation, but I have my own expenses too!”
“Ever since I was kicked out by the Lancasters, people have been looking down on me. How am I supposed to keep up appearances if I can’t even afford to go out for a meal or a drink?!”
Crystal seemed to disapprove of Lennon’s aggressive tone but didn’t try to stop him.
She said awkwardly, “Carter, I have a competition at school soon, and I need to pay for my own costumes and photography. It’s not cheap… When you get the money, I can just borrow some from you.”
A scoff suddenly echoed from the doorway.
The three of them turned to see Anastasia standing there, holding Harrison’s arm.
Anastasia couldn’t believe she’d overheard such a shameless conversation. She made no effort to hide her disgust.
“Plotting to get more money from the Lancaster family? Have you no shame? Does Susan know about this?”
At that, she turned to the bodyguard behind her. “Go and get Mrs. Young. She was the one who claimed she never wanted the Lancaster family’s money, as it would only tarnish her ‘great love’!”
The bodyguard looked to Harrison.
Harrison gave a slight nod.
The guard immediately turned and left.
“Anastasia!” Crystal’s face fell. She shot a fearful glance at Harrison before saying with false bravado, “This is our family’s business! It has nothing to do with you!”
Anastasia crossed her arms and lifted her chin. “I couldn’t care less about your family’s business. But when you start scheming for Lancaster property, then it becomes my business!”
Susan was brought over, and surprisingly, Ryan came with her.
Anastasia didn’t waste any time. “Mrs. Young,” she asked directly, “did you know your son and daughter are planning to trick the Lancaster family out of more money?”
Susan’s face changed. She instinctively glanced at Ryan and met his grim gaze.
She quickly looked away, her eyes darting toward the silent Carter by the window. “Lennon and Crystal are good kids. They would never do something like that. Anastasia, you must have misunderstood…”
“So you’re saying it didn’t happen?” Anastasia’s lips twisted into a smirk. “Alright then. It seems I was
mistaken. I’ll go back and tell
family that under no circonet’
should they give you any more
money, for any reason. We wouldn’t want Mrs. Young to be
misunderstood again.”
Susan’s smile froze on her face, but
she had to force herself to say, “Well, thank you, Anastasia. Time reveals a person’s heart. I hope that
eventually, everyone will segu
these misunderstandings and let go of their prejudice against me…’
Before she could finish, Logan suddenly returned.
“Mr. Harrison Lancaster—” His eyes fell on Carter, and he stopped short. “Young Master Carter, what are you doing here?” he asked, surprised was just over there hearing about a young man who was rushed to the ER after his mother spent his medication money and gave him fake pills instead. Was that you?”
