Chapter 840
Her curiosity piqued, she pressed on, “What kind of business is he in?”
She had heard that Ryan used to be a formidable figure. Even without the Lancaster family, he should be able to make a comeback quickly, right?
Just as she was thinking this, she heard Logan say, “He’s opening a supermarket.”
Anastasia paused. “Planning to start a chain?”
Logan replied, “…No, just one.”
Anastasia was struck speechless, a look of disbelief on her face as she turned to Logan.
Was he serious?
Even if Ryan couldn’t use the Lancaster family’s resources anymore, he still had his own network of friends and contacts built over the years. Starting over should be a piece of cake. How had he fallen to the point of opening a single supermarket?
A strange feeling crept into Anastasia’s mind.
It was as if Ryan was intentionally letting himself fail.
But he still had Susan and her children to support. He loved Susan so much; could he really bear to let her live a hard life?
After returning, Anastasia quietly kept an eye on the situation at the hospital. She was relieved to learn that with Ryan taking charge, Carter’s condition had stabilized, and he was now able to go home.
Thinking about how Lennon and Crystal had fallen so low as to swindle money from the Lancaster family, she grew curious and asked Logan to find out more about what had happened to them after they were kicked out.
“They’re not doing well,” Logan said. “If they could adapt to a normal life, it would be fine. But after being pampered by the Lancaster family for so many years, it’s not easy to go back to how things were.”
Susan now looked haggard, her hands were rough, and her face was drawn. She had secretly sold off all the luxury goods Ryan had bought for her over the years, but the family’s expenses still exceeded their income.
Lennon and Crystal, having been raised by Ryan to get whatever they wanted, found it even harder to adjust to their current financial straits.
Yet, both were naive enough to refuse to leave their old social circles, failing to realize that their previous popularity was entirely funded by the Lancaster family’s money.
Without Ryan’s financial backing, how could they possibly afford to keep up appearances in that world?
Unsurprisingly, they made themselves into laughingstocks.
First, Crystal rented a cheap gown for a gala, boasting that she had bought it only to run into the person who owned the genuine article She was publicly exposed for wearing a rented fake, suffering immense humiliation.
Then, Lennon, trying to maintain a facade of wealth, was goaded into spending a fortune on a celebrity. When he couldn’t pay up, he was nearly beaten to a pulp Susan had to secretly sell a property to resolve the issue.
They had hidden all of this from Ryan, but now that Lennon’s drunken brawl had
come to light, the other secrets were likely to surface as well.
There was surely more drama to come.
Anastasiamused, “If life is this tight, and Mr. Lancaster only plans to open a single supermarket, it’ll be hard for them to return to their c
lifestyle Doesn’t Susan hay
have a
old
problem with that?”
Logan couldn’t help but smile. “Even if she did, how would she dare say it? After all,
she’s the one who claimed she never cared for a life of wealth and only wanted Mr. Lancaster himself.”
Anastasia couldn’t help but smile faintly as well. “True.”
The next day, Anastasia received the file on Steven from Sonder.
[Summer: Are you feeling better?]
[Sonder: I’m fine now.]
Anastasia felt relieved and turned her attention to the documents he had sent.
