Chapter 849
The moment he realized who he’d messed with, York broke out in a cold sweat.
“Mr. Lancaster, Mr. Lancaster, please! Spare me! I didn’t know she was with you—”
Harrison pressed down harder with his foot.
York’s words choked in his throat.
The icy mask on Harrison’s face vanished the moment he turned to Ana. He gently kissed her forehead and murmured, “Go wait in the car, sweetheart. I’ll be right there.”
Anastasia glanced at York under his foot, then calmly looked away and nodded. “Okay.”
If Harrison didn’t want to scare her, she wouldn’t watch.
She obediently went to the car. Just as a bodyguard closed the door, she heard York scream and instinctively glanced back.
York, who had been so arrogant moments before, was now like a beaten dog, kicked so hard by Harrison that he couldn’t even get up.
With his back to her, Harrison looked as cold and ruthless as a demon straight from hell.
The bodyguard, worried she might be frightened, was about to ask the driver to raise the window when he heard her say, “He’s so hot!”
He turned to see Anastasia cupping her face, looking completely smitten.
Logan came over and clapped him on the shoulder. “You’ll get used to it.”
Anastasia waited in the car for fifteen minutes.
When Harrison returned, he had taken off his suit jacket and was carrying it over his arm. The top two buttons of his shirt were undone, and a slightly damp lock of hair fell across his brow.
His expression was impassive, betraying no emotion, but a faint scent of blood clung to him.
He walked with a casual gait that radiated danger, the remnants of violence still lingering in his eyes.
It was clear that even with York on the verge of death, the furious fire in Harrison’s heart hadn’t been fully extinguished.
Anastasia glanced behind him; York’s screams had stopped.
But she felt no fear or sympathy. Never mind today’s events, York had a long history of evil deeds. He was far from a good person if he died here today, she wouldn’t feel a shred of pity, only worry about whether it would affect Harrison.
Her expression remained neutral as she looked away. “Hubby, you’re back!”
Harrison’s face softened instantly, concealing the ferocity in his eyes as he stroked her hair. “Yes. Have you been waiting long?”
Anastasia shook her head. “Not at all.”
Suddenly, she remembered
something and immediately tugged on Harrison’s hand. “Oh, by the way I’m so lucky Mr. Calderon was there to save me today. Otherwise, I would have been in real trouble Hubby, shouldn’t we go and thank him properly?”
Harrison glanced over at Lester, his expression unreadable.
“Yes, we should.”
They walked hand in hand toward Lester.
Lester had already gotten out of his car. Seeing them approach, he gave a slight
nod, his gaze falling on Harrison. “Mr. Lancaster.”
Harrison extended his hand. “Mr. Calderon, thank you for today.”
Lester offered a gentle, faint smile. “It was my duty.”
Then he turned to Anastasia. “I’m relieved you’re okay. I’ll be going now.”
Even though he was tormented by unrequited feelings, he was a man of principle.
The moment he learned she was a married woman, his principles held him in check, preventing him from crossing any lines.
They watched as Lester drove away.
Just as Anastasia was about to get into the car with Harrison, a blood-soaked York suddenly stumbled toward them, collapsing on the ground.
“Mr. Lancaster… Mr. Lancaster! I really didn’t know she was with you! I was tricked! Please, Mr. Lancaster, let me go!”
“Oh? And who tricked you?” Anastasia asked.
York’s pleading voice faltered. His fear-addled mind suddenly cleared, and he lowered his head. “I don’t know who it was, but she paid me and told me Ms. Sterling came from an ordinary family with no connections, so I could do as I pleased.”
