Chapter 1039
Chapter 1049:
Right at this moment, a predatory look flashed across her face.
Elmo keenly sensed the murderous intent in Paisley’s eyes. He was well aware of what kind of merciless woman she was. Although his father had multiple young mistresses, all of them inexplicably vanished in the end. Not a single one was found, dead or alive. He always suspected that Paisley was behind it.
Adamant on making things right, Elmo stepped forward and pulled Candice behind him to protect her. “Paisley, Sigrid, I will be straight with you. For the sake of our past, I’ll offer you the best possible prices to buy your shares. I guarantee you both a life filled with nothing but happiness afterward. But please, all of this has nothing to do with Candice. She was simply following my orders.” He couldn’t bear to let Candice suffer because of his family’s mess.
Sigrid scoffed, her skepticism evident. “You expect me to swallow this and let her go? Elmo, what’s on your funny mind? Are you enchanted by her charms as well? Look at me! We’re family. How could you protect an outsider?”
Paisley hurriedly grabbed Sigrid to stop her from making a scene. Yet, shock still registered on Paisley’s face. She had sorely underestimated Elmo’s ambition. For over two decades, Elmo had been a master of disguise. A perfect one at that!
Paisley was not about to admit her defeat to Elmo, a rival she’d once dismissed with disdain. Now, prolonging the argument seemed utterly futile. “Elmo, we need to have a conversation later.” Paisley spoke with a sly glint in her eyes. “Sigrid, it’s time we left.”
But Sigrid refused to yield. Her enmity for Candice was unshakable. “Candice, do you believe this charade will change a thing? You’ve danced the waltz with two different suitors before. Who’d deign to marry you now? Elmo, you’re ignorant of her sordid past. She was wedded once before, to Greyson Harman, the magnate behind Harman Group’s pharmaceutical empire and Harmony Hospital. Their marriage soured, ending in divorce and expulsion. You bitch! The audacity to covet Milton! Do you genuinely believe you deserve him?”
With poise, Candice removed her beryl hat, running a hand through her short-cropped hair.
“It doesn’t matter. I don’t give a hoot! If I can’t wed him, neither can you. If I am not qualified, you’re in the same case! It’s unbearable for me to see someone else grasp what I’ve been denied. Dragging you down and witnessing your suffering, akin to mine, would provide me immense satisfaction. You should’ve refrained from provoking me from the outset. Ha-ha!”

Candice’s brazen words rendered Sigrid flabbergasted. She was utterly stupefied!
What Candice had done had effectively disqualified her as a proper wife for Milton. Sigrid now possessed nothing more than the onerous burden of familial troubles, worthless stocks, and elusive inheritance rights. Adding to her woes, Elmo harbored designs on the Olson family’s estate. She had been utterly diminished!
Candice pushed Elmo aside with a deft motion and boldly advanced toward Sigrid. She required no protection.
Candice looked at Sigrid from head to toe, and her tone dripped with derision. “Look at you, how pitiable!”
Sigrid seethed with rage. Had Paisley not intervened, she could have torn Candice’s deceitful mouth to shreds!
