Chapter 975
Chapter 981:
Shocked, Maia held her tongue and exited the room.
As she passed by Kori, Kori shot her a smug look and declared, “Fetch me some coffee, will you?”
In disbelief, Maia’s eyes grew wide. She couldn’t fathom Kori having the audacity to command her, especially in front of Milton. Then, an idea flashed through Maia’s mind. If Kori wanted a cup of coffee, and sought to embarrass her in front of Milton, she would get back at her later.
“Of course, just a moment,” Maia said, faking a smile. She turned around and left the room.
Soon after, she returned, a cup of aromatic coffee in hand.
“Ms. Gilmore, your coffee is ready,” she announced as she set the cup down politely.
Kori grabbed the cup, perplexed but unsuspicious, thinking Maia was merely trying to impress Milton.
Lifting the cup, Kori took a cautious sip.
What was this bizarre taste? It was as if toilet cleaner had mingled with the coffee. The overpowering aroma had masked the revolting scent, leading her to inadvertently swallow. Now, a mouthful of this awful mixture remained, leaving her torn between spitting it out or swallowing it. She didn’t want to embarrass herself in front of Milton, but the flavor was nauseating. Her face twisted in disgust. She felt like vomiting.
A sly grin crept onto Maia’s lips, as she considered Kori an utter buffoon. Kori was no match for her. If she dared to compete, her downfall was inevitable.
Just then, light footsteps echoed through the room as the door swung open.
Entering was a woman whose breathtaking beauty and icy aura instantly captivated everyone. It was Candice.
Maia observed Candice’s entrance with a palpable sense of helplessness. Though she had recently assumed the role of a secretary at the esteemed Royal Garden Corporation, she had diligently prepared herself for this critical juncture, and her meticulous preparations included thorough research. She knew Candice, albeit solely through photographs, which she had previously perused. However, the striking disparity between those images and the living, breathing reality of Candice’s beauty left Maia astounded. In her estimation, such celestial beauty should only exist in the realms of heaven.

Despite her astonishment, Maia, as a fellow woman, couldn’t help but experience an undercurrent of unease, her internal alarm bells ringing insistently.
In an attempt to maintain an air of professionalism, she assumed an air of ignorance and said to Candice with a frown, “Excuse me, may I ask who you are? You can’t enter the CEO’s office without an appointment. Please leave.”
The second she caught sight of Candice, Kori’s eyes widened in trepidation. She was unable to endure the peculiar taste in her mouth any longer. She had no time to rush to the bathroom, so she had to hold the trash can nearby. “Ew!” Her reaction was marked by an audible exclamation of disgust.
The moment Candice stepped in, Milton, seemingly attuned to her presence, abruptly raised his head.
