Chapter 596
Chapter 596:
If she checked into a hotel room, Milton would find her within minutes.
Once she finished her tasks, she would take a bus back to Ploville. He would never find her.
As she was lost in thought, her phone suddenly rang.
She glanced at the screen and saw that it was her assistant lawyer calling.
As soon as she answered, her assistant’s nervous voice came through. “Candy, I have some bad news!”
Candice immediately perked up, though she maintained her composure.
“No need to panic. Just tell me what happened, slowly.”
The assistant informed her, “Candy, I just got a message. Regarding Corless’ case, he has filed a new counterclaim.
As for the allegation that Corless caused Belinda’s injuries, they are asserting that Corless did not harm her. They want to plead not guilty in that aspect.”
Candice scoffed. “Plead not guilty? Seriously? The injury report clearly states otherwise, confirming minor injuries. What is his lawyer trying to say?”
“The issue lies with the injury report. The lawyer has submitted new evidence, claiming that Belinda had a bike accident before going to Wenkin with Corless. They provided Belinda’s medical records from the hospital and a surveillance video of her falling off her bike.”
The assistant assured her, “Candy, I’ll send these materials to your email right away. We don’t have the right to access any other detailed information until it’s presented in court, but that puts us at a disadvantage.”
Candice sneered. “It must be fake. How is that even possible? Did she really injure herself while riding a bike? And after she got injured, instead of resting at home, she went on a business trip to Wenkin? The basic logic doesn’t add up. They must have tampered with the hospital records and fabricated evidence. That lawyer’s license should be revoked. He has no moral boundaries.”
The assistant lawyer’s voice grew more anxious. “Anyway, Candy, the situation seems dire. I can’t think of a way to handle this. Have you arrived in Wenkin? Any progress so far?”

Candice checked her watch, raising her wrist. It was already four o’clock in the afternoon. It was getting late, but there were no other options.
She replied, “I had planned to visit the resort at Coving Mountain tomorrow. Since things have changed, I think I need to get there before they do anything to destroy the evidence. I’m heading there right now. Don’t worry. You don’t need to submit any documents yet. We’ll discuss it when I return.”
“Okay,” replied the assistant lawyer. “Candy, please be careful. Corless is capable of anything.”
“I will be careful.” Candice ended the phone call.
She turned to the taxi driver and asked, “Sir, can you take me to the resort on the hillside of Coving Mountain? How long will it take to get there?”
The taxi driver inquired, “Are you referring to the resort built by Warren Building Materials? The one with many villas?”
