Chapter 287
Chapter 287:
Milton clarified, “This is my mother’s personal matter. It has nothing to do with the group. She doesn’t want the group to know. She specifically asked me to consult with you, saying she only trusts you.”
Candice found it strange. Why would his mother ask her about such a matter?
Nevertheless, the fact that Erica trusted her made Candice feel warm inside.
Candice explained a lot to Milton, so she figured it wouldn’t hurt to give him a conclusion.
“Look, there’s an obvious risk. I don’t think signing the contract is a good idea,” she said. “If there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up.”
Without waiting for Milton’s response, Candice ended the video call abruptly and tossed her phone aside.
Feeling a little irritated, Candice wondered if she was a workaholic. Why did she have to answer his questions?
And how could he so easily change the subject without even mentioning the necklace? The events of that morning were a total mess in her mind.
Candice didn’t want to get into it since they still hadn’t terminated the personal attorney contract. She reassured herself that her responsibility was just for the job.
As she touched her neck, Candice wondered what she would do if she couldn’t remove the damn necklace.
She opened her drawer and grabbed a small mirror to inspect it. She wasn’t someone who liked wearing jewelry regularly, so wearing such an ostentatious piece felt out of place.
But she couldn’t deny that the necklace looked really chic and complemented her outfit perfectly. It suited her well.
Despite Milton’s arrogance and fastidiousness, Candice had to admit he had good taste when it came to choosing things.
Candice continued working. She wrote an indictment and organized some documents.

Several important cases had come up lately, so she marked the relevant legal articles to be better prepared for the hearings.
Around ten o’clock, someone knocked on her office door.
“Come in,” Candice called without raising her head, deeply focused on her task.
“Hi, Candy. Sorry to interrupt, but I think you should step out for a bit. There are people at the front desk demanding to see you, and they’re not exactly polite,” the receptionist explained anxiously.
Hearing this, Candice closed the file in front of her. Furrowing her brows, she wondered who those people might be. Who would come to her law office to cause trouble?
No wonder she heard some noise outside earlier. But she had so much work that she chose to stay focused rather than check what was going on. She didn’t expect the commotion had anything to do with her.
She stood up and went out to the lobby.
Madilyn and Rachel were standing there, waiting for her.
When Candice saw them, her face turned livid.
