Chapter 829
Chapter 832:
With that thought, she rushed through her breakfast, packed her things, and headed toward the door.
Jarrod was waiting, his eyes following her as she exited. He asked, “Miss Blake, where might you be headed? I can give you a lift.”
Candice intended to go straight to the West Police Station. She had committed to providing the major crimes division with a statement about her relationship with Dr. Foster. But upon reflection, she pondered the consequences of Jarrod disclosing her whereabouts to Milton. How would she justify her actions?
So, to Jarrod, she replied, “To the law firm.”
“Understood,” Jarrod responded.
As she slid into the car, Candice’s brow furrowed, annoyance nibbling at her. She gnawed at her fingertips, her mind a storm of thoughts.
She wanted Milton to steer clear of her parents’ past, just as she had no wish to be drawn into the Lopez family’s history. Privacy seemed like the best course for both. But, unfortunately, all leads concerning her parents’ accident and the downfall of the Blake Group had gone cold. The more she pondered, the more disheartened she became.
Upon reaching the Hope Law Firm, Candice got out of the car.
She planned to pick up some files from her office and then head to the West Police Station by taxi, ensuring her destination remained a secret. As she entered the lobby, she came face to face with the last person she wished to encounter.
It was Sigrid.
Truth be told, Candice hadn’t seen Sigrid in quite a while, not since she had stirred up trouble at the law firm. Even after Candice and Milton’s car accident and their subsequent recuperation, Sigrid hadn’t made an appearance, as if she had vanished without a trace.

But now, Sigrid stood there, flamboyantly dressed in a blue dress, an elegant thin cashmere cloak, and a matching wide-brimmed lady’s hat. Her lips, painted red, were sharply defined, and her eye makeup was bolder than usual. She looked smug and conceited. Spotting Candice in the lobby, Sigrid made her way over.
“Candice, I never realized the depths of your audacity.”
Candice barely acknowledged her, continuing her stride toward the elevator.
When she saw herself dismissed, Sigrid’s anger flared. She grabbed Candice’s arm. “I’m talking to you. Didn’t you hear me?”
Candice turned around to face her, and calmly responded, “Apologies, I didn’t catch your words. Though, I did hear what sounded like a rabid dog barking just now. Did you hear it too?”
“How could you!” Eyes ablaze, Sigrid glared at Candice and yelled, “You shameless bitch! Rumor has it you accepted his Lamborghini?”
Sigrid’s fury stemmed from her own desire for that car, initially seduced by the pristine white design of the concept vehicle. Paisley, her mother, had even promised to purchase it for her once it hit the market. But to Sigrid’s shock, Milton had preemptively secured the sports car, going as far as acquiring the exclusive design rights. Simply put, this car, unique in its form and aesthetic, would be the only one in the world.
