Chapter 69:
Annoyed, Candice decided to order takeout. After finishing it, she took a shower and went to bed early. It was a hot and humid summer night, but it would be cold if she turned on the air conditioner.
Even in her sleep, Candice was uneasy. Milton’s handsome face appeared before her in her dream. He kept getting closer, his perfect features clearer than ever in front of her. Finally, his thin lips covered hers. They were soft and warm, and it felt so real.
Suddenly, Candice woke up, drenched in sweat all over her body. Thinking about the dream she had just had, she unconsciously brought her hand to her lips. Candice surprised herself. How could she have had such a dream? Yet, it felt so real, as if it had really happened.
Candice felt a bad knot in the pit of her stomach. Did they really kiss each other when she got drunk last night? Frustrated, she slapped herself on the head. But she couldn’t remember any details of the kiss at all.
Out of nowhere, the scene of them kissing flashed before her eyes. For a moment, she couldn’t tell whether it was a dream or reality. She shook her head, thinking this was all a result of Bettina’s recent, crazy torture. She couldn’t believe she could have such a dream, especially with that man being Milton. She must be going crazy.
Candice then got up from bed. Realizing she was still sweating, she took another shower. As she lay back on her bed, the night passed, but she could hardly sleep at all.
Over the next two days, Candice continued to struggle with the strange feeling in her heart. Finally, she decided to visit the hospital to check her Human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) serum level. The best hospital in Ploville was Harmony Hospital. Unfortunately, it was owned by Greyson, and going there was out of the question.
Not wanting to bump into Greyson, she carefully chose a remote hospital on the east end of the city. After all, testing hCG levels wasn’t special; it was an easy test provided by the majority of hospitals.

Candice had done some research on the Internet and discovered that the normal hCG value for a non-pregnant woman should be between 0 and 5. Indeed, she was pregnant.
Her final shred of hope shattered into pieces. She realized how careless she had been. She had thought it would be impossible for her to get pregnant since her period was due in just a few days. But that man’s genes were too powerful. She got pregnant after only one encounter!

Her mind went blank as she stood among the crowd in the hospital, reading the test report in her hand. She just stood there for a long time, unsure of what to do next. Suddenly, a piercing voice snapped her back from her thoughts.
“Candice, what are you doing here?”
Candice quickly regained her composure at the sound of the familiar voice. It was her former mother-in-law, Rachel. Beside her, holding her arm, was Madilyn. Madilyn was holding a medical record and a pile of documents in her hands.
Candice shoved her test report into her bag and kept calm. But the move ended up attracting Madilyn’s attention. Candice didn’t know how to address Rachel. It would be inappropriate to call her by her first name since she and Greyson had already divorced. But since the divorce wasn’t public knowledge, calling her Mrs. Harman would also feel wrong. In the end, she chose not to speak to her at all.
Madilyn strutted toward her and said, “Candice, Harmony Hospital belongs to the Harman family now. Aunt Rachel and I came here to copy some medical records and CT disks to transfer them to our own hospital today. What are you doing here?”
“I’m not feeling well. Am I not allowed to go to the hospital?” Candice replied coldly.
“Why don’t you go to Rey’s hospital? Did you decide to visit another hospital on purpose just to piss him off?” Madilyn questioned.
“I was just passing by this hospital. Is there a problem?” Candice asked. She felt that explaining herself too much would raise suspicion.
