Chapter 648
Chapter 648:
She washed it down with a full glass of milk. The breakfast was finished.
Milton didn’t want to upset her, so he painstakingly ate half a piece of the bread and some eggs.
The eggs lacked any flavor—probably because she forgot to add salt.
The cold bacon was impossible to swallow without reheating.
He told her, “I’ve arranged for lunch to be delivered. No need for you to prepare anything.”
If he had a spare moment, he would prepare lunch himself, but during busy times, he preferred to order food from a restaurant.
“Sure,” Candice replied, dabbing her lips with a napkin.
She rose, moved to the door, inspected it, then turned and asked, “Are all these bodyguards yours?”
She quickly counted over a dozen intimidating men, each equipped with professional Bluetooth communication devices—clearly trained security personnel.
“Yes,” Milton replied.
Candice gestured toward the guards and said, “With so many bodyguards, you don’t have to be here all the time. You could go to Royal Garden Corporation to take care of your business.”
Milton shot her a look and said, “I’m here to watch over you. I don’t trust you.”
Candice was left speechless.
The number of bodyguards was already substantial. Not even a fly could get inside. She was effectively locked in.
In the middle of their conversation, Milton’s phone buzzed.
His expression turned grave as he glanced at the caller ID. In front of Candice, he picked up the call, telling her, “Don’t go upstairs. Hold on.”
On the other end was his personal assistant, Axell.
Axell reported, “Mr. Lopez, my findings suggest that Corless has stationed someone outside the building where the Hope Law Firm was this morning. It seems he’s tracking Candice’s movements, waiting for the right moment to hurt her. Suspicious individuals were also spotted near the Blake family’s villa. The security personnel have increased their area of surveillance. Upon discovering this group, Corless’ crew never dared to venture near again.”
“Understood. We must also amplify the security around the law firm. Journalists must be kept at bay too. We can’t afford to have any information from the law firm leaking out, especially not to Corless,” Milton directed.
“Affirmative.” With that, Axell ended the call.
Candice, looking perplexed, turned to Milton and asked, “What’s the matter?”
Milton gave Candice a stern look. “Corless isn’t backing down. His goons are loitering near the law firm and your residence. He’s plotting to use this chaos to hurt you. Do you still believe it’s unnecessary to stay under my protection?”
Candice bit her lower lip, lowered her gaze, and didn’t have the courage to respond.
