Chapter 497
Chapter 497:
“Okay,” the receptionist replied. She then turned around and left with the coffee and desserts in her hands.
Mona stood up first and said, “I have to go to the detention center to meet a plaintiff. I’ll take my leave.” Soon, everyone started leaving one after another.
When only Bettina and Candice were left in the room, Bettina quickly grabbed Candice and asked, “Where were you at noon? I didn’t see you when I came back.”
Candice replied matter-of-factly, “I went to the next building. There is a confidential new case. I can’t tell you about it in detail.”
Bettina nodded and didn’t ask more. It turned out that Candice was with Milton at noon.
“What’s wrong with Greyson? Why did he bring coffee and desserts for our staff? What is he trying to do?”
Candice shrugged and answered dismissively, “How would I know?”
Bettina patted Candice’s shoulder and said with a sigh, “Well, I guess he will be waiting for you in your office now.”
“Do you need me to accompany you?”
Candice smiled and assured her, “No, I’m not afraid of him.”
Bettina nodded and said, “By the way, I’ve moved to Sunrise Apartment. So don’t go to Chinsea Villa Complex if you want to meet me. Also, I’ve arranged for someone to send your stuff to your villa this afternoon.”
Candice frowned and asked, “Betty, are you hiding something from me?”
Bettina smiled awkwardly. “Nothing big. Fine, I won’t keep it from you. Do you remember my ex-boyfriend? I’m trying to avoid him for a while.”
“Is he badgering you?” Candice asked with a frown. An alarm went off in her heart when Bart was mentioned. This man was double-faced, and they needed to be extra careful with him.
Bettina’s face darkened as she recalled being raped by Bart. “How dare he? I just don’t want to see him for the time being,” she said angrily.

“Tell me if you need me,” Candice said supportively. Although Bettina’s troubles seemed worse, she was her best friend, and Candice couldn’t leave her in the lurch.
Bettina chuckled and replied, “Don’t worry about me. Do you think I’ll let myself be bullied?”
Candice narrowed her eyes, sensing an indescribable pain in Bettina. Indeed, it was difficult to bully her. However, once hurt, it would be extremely painful.
Candice sighed and said, “I hope someday you can tell me what happened in the past.”
Bettina’s expression froze. She hesitated for a moment and mumbled, “I know. I’ll tell you. Just give me some more time.”
Candice nodded and returned to professional mode. “Betty, please send me a copy of every surveillance footage from the ambassador’s wife’s birthday banquet. I want to review them again,” she requested.
Bettina nodded and replied, “Okay. I’ll send them to you later.”
Candice exited the meeting room and returned to her exclusive office.
