Chapter 992
Chapter 999:
Arriving in Thonde, Candice wasted no time seeking a local hospital to ascertain the truth of her situation. The test results, upon perusal, stirred a tumult of emotions within her. The impending arrival of a child was akin to a precious gift, one she couldn’t bear to pass up. The memory of her previous loss still reverberated deep within her.
She resolved to protect this new life within her with unwavering dedication, even though the timing was less than ideal. Providence had a peculiar sense of timing, granting her another chance so soon after her previous loss. She embraced this gift with open arms.
Yet, fear gnawed at her like a relentless storm. The specter of another heart-wrenching setback haunted her thoughts. She meticulously protected her growing baby, nurturing it with all the care she could muster. Her anxieties were momentarily assuaged only two days prior when a Thonde hospital confirmed that her child was thriving. It was robust and healthy.
In the midst of this fragile euphoria, her mornings were tainted by the severe affliction of morning sickness. It was a torment that often left her retching at the mere sight or scent of food, and even water was no sanctuary when the malaise was at its zenith. Her physician had forewarned her that this was the toll of motherhood, an ordeal that would intensify as the fetus grew. So, she had taken an antidote just before she visited Milton’s office. Her intention was to spare herself from the anguish of exposing her condition prematurely, a revelation she was ill-prepared to face in such circumstances.
With trembling hands and a pallid countenance, she stared into the mirror, willing the medicine to take hold and dispel the nausea that threatened to overwhelm her. Slowly, the discomfort receded, allowing her to leave the bathroom.
Unforeseen and with stealthy grace, a figure emerged at the corner, blocking her path.
Startled, Candice looked up, only to discover that it was none other than Elmo.

Why was he here?
Candice’s feelings toward the Olson family were far from fond, and she had no desire to engage with them. Elmo’s eyes locked onto her, a mischievous gleam in his gaze as he playfully taunted, “Did you fall in the toilet? I saw you enter that lavatory, and the wait was beginning to feel eternal.”
Candice’s heart skipped a beat, and she swiftly became vigilant. She couldn’t let Elmo see her vulnerability. Did he see her crying against the wall?
Candice, feeling uneasy, questioned, “What do you want from me?”
Elmo pouted and whined, “Look at you. How can you be this ungrateful? I helped you find him that night, but you didn’t even offer a simple ‘thank you.’”
Candice looked up and responded sincerely, “Thank you.”
She then lowered her head, attempting to walk past him.
However, to her surprise, Elmo grasped her arm and said, “You seem so insincere. Never mind. I’ve heard that you had surgery. How are you doing?”
