Chapter 896
Chapter 899:
Candice shook her head and replied, “I don’t need the truth to be presented before the law. I just need to speak the truth to the directors and the Lopez family. That will suffice. I don’t intend to hold Bart accountable. I’ve been tirelessly searching for evidence, fully aware that I won’t find any direct proof. He must have destroyed it all. The scandal surrounding the Fake Horse Bidding can only arouse suspicion but lacks concrete evidence. My role is to remind the directors to be cautious of Bart.”
“What a pity!” Bettina sighed.
“Betty, there’s no need for you to feel remorseful on my behalf. Not every truth can be unveiled. Making it public like this is the best outcome. I no longer wish to delve into it any further. This matter is concluded.”
Suddenly, Milton stepped forward, enveloping her in his arms. Disregarding the gazes of others, he whispered in her ear, “Why aren’t you feeling regretful? I’m sorry that I didn’t avenge you. Although we cannot bring Bart to justice, we must at least expose his deplorable actions to the public. I can reach out to the media…”
Before Milton could finish his sentence, Candice interjected, “No. After all, Bart holds the position of vice president at the Royal Garden Corporation. Once this matter is exposed, it will adversely affect the company’s interests, causing a decline in stock prices.”
Candice had witnessed firsthand the turmoil Milton had faced when he was embroiled in a scandal in the past, resulting in a sharp drop in the company’s stock prices. She did not want to witness a similar ordeal again.
“So, you did it for me?” Moved by her words, Milton gently lifted Candice into his arms and declared, “Our delightful weekend has been completely ruined by them. I shouldn’t have attended this wretched celebration party. Let’s go home and have some fun.”
Candice blushed upon hearing his words. Behind them stood Bettina, Raul, and Erica. How could he utter such embarrassing words? Bettina and Raul were undoubtedly taken aback.
Reacting swiftly, Candice covered Milton’s lips with her delicate hands and admonished him, “Be quiet!”

Realizing that Milton had already whisked her away from the meeting room, Candice said in a hushed tone, “I haven’t bid farewell to Erica yet. It’s rather impolite!”
However, Milton paid no attention to her concerns, disregarding the presence of the people around them. In full view of everyone outside the meeting room, he carried Candice through the banquet hall, heading straight for the elevator.
Feeling helpless, Candice resorted to covering her face with her hands, finding solace in the act of shielding herself from prying eyes. Sometimes, it was preferable to do something rather than nothing.
At the rear, Erica extended her hand, attempting to halt their departure. Yet, before she could intervene, she watched the two of them leave, right before her eyes. How could she say that? They couldn’t be together!
Once Milton and Candice had taken their leave, Bettina and Raul made their way back into the banquet hall. The room was bustling with shareholders and senior managers huddled together, deep in conversation. Seeing this, Raul rubbed his temples. Milton had a knack for creating chaos and leaving Raul to clean up after him.
