“What?” Raul’s confusion quickly turned into anger. “Huh? You just want to get rid of me!” he exclaimed.
Raul felt the urge to swear but held back to maintain his professional image in front of Jarrod.
Milton really cared more about dates than mates! No wonder he asked Raul to clean the master bedroom. Raul wondered where he would live when he returned in a month. He suspected Milton would take over the entire apartment.
“It’s just a business trip,” Milton replied nonchalantly. “If you don’t want to go to Oakdale, I can send you to another country. Or you could go back home. I heard your family is doing well in the construction industry. It’s up to you.” Milton shrugged, as if he didn’t care.
Raul felt a sinking feeling in his chest at the mention of his family. It was his Achilles’ heel, and he felt discouraged just hearing it.
“How could you do that?” Raul’s voice trembled with anger. “You’re pissing me off!”
Milton looked surprised. “What have I done?” he asked. “Raul, how long have you been staying at my place? Have you ever counted? A decade? Two decades? You’ve been living with me since primary school. When I went to high school, you took over my room. And how long have you been working at Royal Garden Corporation?” Raul had no retort.
He knew he couldn’t bring up the past. The truth was, he owed Milton a lot.
But Raul tried to push the thoughts aside. After all, it was just an apartment, and it was a rental. He would just let it go.
Raul felt helpless. “Do I really have to go on this business trip? I think I can just move out,” he said.
Milton’s face suddenly turned serious. “I’m serious,” he said. “The power and energy project in Oakdale is connected to the Hinks family. I assigned it to you deliberately. You’ve always wanted to…
Milton said, “You’ve always wanted to investigate the cause of your mother’s death, right? Maybe there will be clues there.” Raul was stunned.
