Chapter 278
Chapter 278:
He suddenly regretted promising not to do anything to her. In fact, he hadn’t wanted to make that promise in the first place. He was afraid he couldn’t keep it—especially with her standing before him, one leg propped up on a chair, her hips slightly tilted back.
She eagerly began slurping the noodles, every movement radiating endless temptation.
Her actions shattered his willpower and reason, leaving him struggling to control his desires.
He quickly looked away and sat opposite her, taking deep breaths to calm himself.
Candice sat down to enjoy the instant noodles. She was pleasantly surprised by how much they tasted like a gourmet dish. The thin slices of steak were incredibly tender, and combined with the cheese, it was simply amazing.
Meanwhile, Milton’s attention remained fixed on Candice. Despite having taken a cold shower earlier, he felt heat spreading all over his body.
As he took a few bites of noodles, he struggled to focus.
Candice noticed and frowned. “Don’t you want to eat? Don’t let it go to waste. Give it to me if you don’t want it.”
After saying this, she promptly took the bowl away from Milton.
She continued eating, feeling hungrier with every bite—the food was simply too delicious.
Besides, Milton had drunk her water, so it was only fair that she ate his noodles.
Milton was speechless. Who said he didn’t want to eat? After playing golf and expending so much energy, he was starving. He had just been staring at Candice and eating slowly.
Candice felt truly satisfied after dinner. She made sure to wash all the dishes and clean the kitchen, as anyone who didn’t know how to cook should do.
On top of that, Milton was a neat freak, so Candice went above and beyond, wiping the dishes three times. She wanted to make sure everything was spotless.
After finishing in the kitchen, Candice headed back to the living room.
Milton was already there, sitting on the sofa with his long legs crossed. He looked so elegant and noble, with a thin laptop on his lap—his left hand propping up his forehead, and his right hand holding the mouse.
He seemed to be browsing for information. Candice couldn’t help but steal a glance at the screen. The pages were all in a foreign language.
Candice settled on the sofa, trying to put some distance between herself and Milton. She secretly wanted to borrow his laptop.
In the evenings, Candice preferred to keep busy with work—writing documents, sending emails, and reviewing materials. This helped prevent her from getting lost in her thoughts.
Ever since her parents passed away, Candice had become especially afraid of the night.
Every evening, when she found herself alone in an empty room, an overwhelming sense of loneliness washed over her. In this world, she had no one to rely on but herself.
