Chapter 613
Chapter 613:
But why was he not the same when he was with Candice? She witnessed firsthand that he not only held Candice but also kissed her. Even if it was just artificial respiration, it still felt like a real kiss. Why?
She thought it was the ultimate humiliation when he wiped his hands after touching her.
However, his next words made her feel like she was plunging into an abyss of darkness.
His face twisted into a frown as he gazed down at her.
“Sigrid, creating designs for over ten new brands is a massive task. I’m worried it will be ten times more exhausting than it is now in the days ahead. If you’re physically weak and incompetent, resign from your position, and someone else can take over.”
“Capable can take over. The Royal Garden Corporation is only interested in profits, and we cannot let progress be hindered because of you.”
Sigrid was stunned, and she hastily rose from the floor. She couldn’t give him the impression that she was incompetent, so she immediately clarified,
“I didn’t mean it that way. I am confident that I can handle this workload. I was just feeling a little under the weather today, but I’m feeling better now. Don’t worry, my designs will be of the highest quality.”
He didn’t say anything in response and immediately asked her to leave his office.
As she walked outside, she overheard him calling his secretary to send his clothes for dry cleaning.
Sigrid felt even more depressed as she recalled what had happened.
There was nothing to smash in the room.
“Damn it!”
Today, she had intended to copy Candice’s behavior, feign fatigue due to excessive work, and display vulnerability in front of Milton to gain his sympathy.
As a matter of fact, she only ended up humiliating herself.

Instead of receiving any sympathy, Milton nearly compelled her to quit her job immediately. There was no way she could resign, not when she hadn’t gotten everything she wanted. She couldn’t accept it.
The Milton she was familiar with typically acted this way, disliking incompetent men and looking down on feeble women. To him, individuals who were incapable and constantly complaining without any valid reason were not useful, and he deemed them unworthy of further attention.
But why was Candice an exception?
Milton had a double standard, and it was unfair.
The following day,
Candice was roused from slumber by Milton, though she hadn’t slept enough. Nestled in his arms, she was warm and cozy, reluctant to move. She had enjoyed a restful night.
“What’s going on?” She rubbed her eyes, disgruntled. Sensing the light around her, she burrowed her head back into his embrace.
“Watch the sunrise,” Milton said as he gently extracted her from his arms and gestured towards the eastern sky.
