Candice, unfazed by their intimidation tactics, walked right up to them, having already seen them.
Madilyn put on a fake smile and said, “It’s nice to see you here. Your dress is absolutely amazing.”
Rachel, trying to sound civil, said, “Candice, don’t forget to act elegant tonight. When Greyson arrives, you and he can greet the ambassador’s wife together. It’s important for the Harman family’s reputation.”
After speaking, Rachel looked away nervously.
Madilyn got even closer to Candice and said, “Why don’t we go greet the guests together?”
Candice pushed Madilyn away gently but firmly. She gave them a curious look and scanned them from head to toe with her sharp gaze.
She couldn’t figure out why Madilyn and Rachel were suddenly being nice to her.
They usually mocked her at every turn, so what was going on? Why were they trying to buddy up to her? Why did they want to go greet the guests with her? How was that even happening? Something didn’t add up!
Candice couldn’t believe how well Madilyn and Rachel were treating her. They must have an ulterior motive.
Candice said warily, “I’m sorry. I am attending the party on behalf of my law firm tonight. Besides, we are not closely acquainted.”
With that, she turned around and left, not bothering to look at them again.
“Don’t leave in such a hurry. Let’s wait for Rey. He said he’ll be arriving soon,” Madilyn persuaded, grabbing Candice’s arm, unwilling to let go.
She glanced slyly at Candice’s belly.
She knew about Candice’s pregnancy and was determined to make her miscarry tonight.
Candice glared coldly at Madilyn’s hand on her and scolded, “Can’t you understand what I said? I am not here on behalf of the Harman family. I won’t meet the ambassador’s wife with you.”
