Chapter 986
Chapter 993:
Candice responded with a knowing smile and a nonchalant shrug. She locked eyes with Milton, her gaze radiating warmth.
“Can you conquer your mysophobia?” she inquired.
Milton found himself momentarily at a loss, frozen in the headlights of her cunning inquiry.
She knew him far too well, and he had fallen into her well-laid snare! Their intimacy was such that they seemed like two sides of the same coin, making it exceedingly challenging to hide anything from her. This was precisely why he had forged an alliance with Sigrid in the first place.
Seeing Milton rendered momentarily speechless, Candice opted not to press further. She maintained her tender gaze on him.
Meanwhile, Sigrid fought her way back to her feet, having witnessed Milton’s aversion firsthand. This was the source of her most profound torment: her inability to bridge the gap with Milton. His discarded suit and the used wet wipes were scathing insults.
She glared at Candice and expressed her frustration. “No matter what, I’m destined to be his wife. Stop daydreaming! Get out of here!”
Candice offered no response, her focus remaining fixed on Milton. She wanted to hear him say it himself.
Milton began to speak, but his words withered on his lips.
The air hung heavy, the room falling into an oppressive silence.
At last, he managed to force the words out. “She’s light. I’m going through with the engagement as planned. I didn’t send you an invitation because I didn’t want you there.”
Candice’s complexion paled, the precipice of realization hitting her hard. She had prodded him to the brink, yet he still spoke these words. She was at a loss for what else she could do or change. Did it even matter?

With a heavy heart, she lowered her gaze and responded softly, “I understand.”
She then turned toward the sofa, retrieving her handbag. Rather than making her exit, she retraced her steps back to Milton.
Before him, she unzipped her handbag and removed the items she had prepared in advance. It was something she had never wanted to do but felt compelled to.
Milton furrowed his brow, sensing that things were taking an ominous turn. He couldn’t fathom what Candice was about to do.
One by one, Candice removed the items and placed them before Milton.
Her voice remained eerily composed as she explained, “This is a check. I’ve cashed out my entire savings and the commission from Warren Building Materials. A total of one hundred million dollars.”
She then held out a pair of car keys. “This one’s for your Lamborghini, and this one for your Bentley. I’ll return them to you.”
