Chapter 990
Chapter 997:
Milton slumped onto the sofa, his demeanor a symphony of melancholy, his hand cradling his furrowed brow, words eluding him.
Standing on his feet felt like a snowball’s chance in hell.
Sigrid paid close attention to the tension on his face. She paid no heed to Candice’s words. As a lawyer, she knew she couldn’t pose a threat to her without Milton’s support. She didn’t believe Candice could overturn the situation.
But the storm cloud that loomed over Milton’s face was undeniable. She had arrived punctually today, and it was a spectacle to behold. She had never been as pleased as she was watching Candice being sent away.
After a brief contemplation, Sigrid approached Milton’s side and, without a second thought, began, “Milton, I only wish to lend you my support today. Otherwise, she may persist…”
Before she could finish her statement, Milton interjected with authority. “Shut the hell up! You may make your exit now as well!”
Milton’s gaze shot up suddenly, and his eyes brimmed with unbridled anger. “Our agreement is but a mere engagement, which doesn’t equate to matrimony. Know your place and refrain from entertaining dreams beyond your station. Who granted you entry without my consent? Leave my office immediately, or I’ll rescind my prior promises and revoke all projects I’ve bestowed upon the Olson family.”
Sigrid was flabbergasted; she had never witnessed such rage in him. His stern face sent shivers down her spine.
In a quivering voice, she consented, “Okay, I’ll leave! Spare me your wrath; I shall heed your words henceforth.”
She had no other recourse but to yield. Previously, Milton had dismissed her and banished her from his presence, only to approach her later with a proposal, offering her family substantial projects in exchange for her cooperation.

She agreed. Regardless of their future matrimony, their engagement remained a fact.
She needed to be his fiancée to chart her course step by step.
Now that Milton and Candice were history, she still had a chance, so provoking him now was ill-advised. Patience and opportunity were on her side, which meant that she wasn’t supposed to miss him this time.
Miss him this time. Sigrid gathered her belongings and said, “I’m taking my leave, Milton.” With that, she promptly exited his office, closing the door behind her. Having achieved her goal and reaped unexpected rewards, she knew it was about time she bowed out—at least for now. Though losing the Lopez family’s treasured bracelet stung, she had no choice.
Candice had taken the bracelet, and Sigrid sensed that she wasn’t finished. She had to keep a vigilant eye on her, as the current opportunity was too good to pass up.
Once Sigrid left, Milton was alone in his office.
He had never felt so powerless before.
