Chapter 639
Chapter 639:
“That’s right,” Milton answered absentmindedly.
“Are you living with Candice?” Erica inquired.
“I am.” Milton’s gaze instinctively turned towards the stairs. Candice should be back in her room. He made every effort to prevent her from overhearing his conversation with Erica. After all, he hadn’t discovered the truth behind Erica pushing Candice down the stairs. For now, he aimed to avoid any further conflicts between them.
After contemplating for a while, he explained, “She has an important court trial coming up. I need to ensure her personal safety.”
“Make sure that you protect her with everything you’ve got.”
With nothing left to say, Erica stated, “I’m hanging up.”
After the call, Milton carelessly tossed his phone aside.
At that moment, a video conference alert chimed on his computer, eliciting a low curse. Work hours were packed with numerous tasks that demanded his attention.
Returning to his laptop, he resumed his work.
Meanwhile, upstairs in the study, Candice immersed herself in her tasks. The materials brought from the law firm, including those provided by Mona, formed a towering stack of papers. Drawing a deep breath, she resolved to focus solely on her work. It was the only way to keep her thoughts at bay.
She flipped through the materials, occasionally jotting down crucial information. Each valuable detail received a notation for future reference.
Page after page, she continued her diligent endeavor. Her phone chimed, the familiar sound indicating an email notification.
Curiosity piqued, she checked her inbox. It was an email from Bettina, containing the surveillance videos of the ambassador’s wife’s birthday party. Not only did they include the footage she had scrutinized repeatedly from the camera at the entrance, but they encompassed videos from various public areas and angles as well.

A slight frown creased her brows. She proceeded to download all the files from the email and transferred them to her computer.
Momentarily, she hesitated. Should she delve into the videos now or wait until Corless’ case concluded?
Despite the undeniable evidence, she still harbored doubts about Erica’s role in pushing her down the stairs, causing her miscarriage.
Letting out a deep sigh, she acknowledged her subconscious reluctance to believe that Erica was capable of such actions. Regardless of how Erica treated her, she didn’t wish to falsely accuse an innocent person.
Perhaps the truth could only be uncovered through her own investigation.
After contemplating for a while, Candice ultimately decided to watch the surveillance videos. Having received them, she couldn’t bear the thought of leaving them unwatched, lingering in her mind and disrupting her sleep. She might as well proceed with watching them now.
Thus, she opened the videos one by one, using the computer’s multiple screens to display all four simultaneously. Reviewing the footage took time and focus. She needed to concentrate, fixating her gaze on the screen as she dedicated over two hours to scrutinizing the recordings.
