Chapter 670
Chapter 670:
Milton flashed a grin and gently squeezed her cheek. “What do you think? I didn’t deceive you, did I?”
He wrapped his lengthy arms around her waist. His only desire was to share a peaceful dinner with her that evening. If he had known they would meet those people earlier, he would have made arrangements to vacate the restaurant beforehand.
Candice’s cheeks flushed a rosy hue. His touch was so personal that she found it hard to endure. Unfortunately, she had no place to conceal herself.
Suddenly, the door to their private dining area opened from the outside. Milton’s head snapped up, his voice laced with annoyance. “Didn’t I make it clear that no one should enter?”
After the server had brought in the food, he had instructed not to disturb them unless he signaled. “It’s me.” The voice belonged to Erica.
When Candice heard those words, a shiver ran through her, urging her to rise from her seat. She felt as though she was being treated like a barmaid held in a man’s embrace. However, such a subtle difference went unnoticed by Milton, who remained unaffected by everything.
He tightened his hold on her waist. “Is something wrong?” he asked. His voice was eerily composed, giving away no hint of his feelings.
This marked the first awkward encounter among the trio since Candice’s unfortunate miscarriage. Despite the difficult situation, Milton’s choice was to protect Candice.
Erica, observing her son, understood his intentions all too well. “Milton, remember I mentioned Sigrid and her mother wished to dine with us? You claimed you were busy. Today, I turned them down on your behalf, stating you were preoccupied. However, now that we’ve encountered each other, you really should go say hello. Our families have been close for many generations. It’s only right that you show some courtesy,” Erica explained with a sigh.
Heeding Erica’s advice, Candice gently nudged Milton. “Go on.”
Milton had no choice but to heed Erica’s advice. He assisted Candice to her feet. “Come with me. We’ll be back soon.”

Erica’s expression turned sour.
Managing to extricate herself from Milton’s grip, Candice said, “I’m staying here. I’ll wait for you.”
Erica nodded at Milton in approval.
Without another word, Milton left the room.
Once they were gone, Candice collapsed into her chair, utterly drained.
The Lopez and Olson families had been allies for ages, but where did she fit in all this?
She had given everything to Milton, including her heart, which was no longer her own, allowing him to dictate her actions. Watching Milton leave filled her with a profound sense of melancholy. A lavish feast lay before her, yet her appetite had completely deserted her. Lost in thought, she gazed at the remnants of white ice crumbs, her mind drifting away.
In the private room reserved by Erica, the evening’s selection was a sashimi hot pot. Each individual was presented with a gleaming pot, with lit candles beneath it.
