She squinted at the screen and saw the caller ID.
It was Greyson.
She knew she couldn’t keep her relocation hidden forever, but she didn’t expect Greyson to find out so quickly. Fortunately, he hadn’t been able to locate her new place just yet. At least, not today.
Milton noticed the tension in the air, and his eyebrows shot up in anger.
The phone continued to ring, its shrill tone filling the living room. It wasn’t until the ringing finally stopped that silence returned.
Candice sighed and switched off her phone.
It was the only way to avoid Greyson’s constant calls.
Then she stood in the living room in a daze.
The silence in the room was palpable.
Milton noticed that Candice’s hair was still wet, so he grabbed a towel and gently began to dry it.
Candice was caught off guard and jumped away, surprised.
He was… drying her hair?
The subtle act was equal parts seductive and teasing. Feeling a bit panicked, Candice quickly sat down at the table and picked up her spoon to start eating.
The thought of Greyson only added to her annoyance. It seemed like food was the only thing that could fill the emptiness inside her.
Milton sat down next to Candice and watched as she ate, occasionally taking a few bites himself.
Candice couldn’t help but glance over at him from time to time. He hadn’t said a single word since they sat down. He just watched her silently.
He didn’t ask why she had moved or why she hadn’t been answering her phone.
He didn’t even ask about what had happened between her and Greyson.
He simply sat there, quietly observing her every move.

Greyson stood alone in the empty apartment.
The weight of silence and loneliness settled over him after Candice had left with all her belongings.
It was deeply disappointing. He tried calling her; the ringtone echoed through the vacant rooms, but no one answered.
He called again, frowning with frustration as he waited for her to pick up.
But it was useless. “The person you are trying to reach is not available. Please try your call again later,” the robotic voice said.
Greyson couldn’t believe it. How could she have turned off her phone? Losing his temper, he hurled the device against the wall. The screen shattered into pieces.
Without Candice in his apartment, he felt an inexplicable anxiety.
When she was around, he hadn’t cared much, but now that she was gone, he felt like he was about to lose her for good.
