Chapter 653
Chapter 653:
She was done for. This was Milton’s blunder. In the morning, when the alarm chimed, he coaxed her into snuggling a bit longer.
She had been resting well recently, sleeping soundly. Each night, he would join her, easing her into slumber. Until two days ago, her PTSD had vanished completely.
Perhaps she had adapted. The previous night, Milton had stayed up late to communicate with his French colleagues due to the time difference. He was engaged in an extensive video meeting, not retiring until around three in the morning.
Because she had a court session the next day, she turned in early. But without him by her side, sleep eluded her. Her thoughts were a whirlwind. Was it because her PTSD had receded that he stopped joining her at night? She quickly dismissed such a ludicrous thought. Damn it! Was she so dependent on him? She was so spineless.
She despised herself for being so useless. Simultaneously, she remembered that her menstrual cycle had just concluded. Starting from today, she was no longer safe. What if he desired intimacy at night? She should’ve sought sleep immediately.
After tomorrow’s trial, she would ask him to move out to end their living together. It was sensible to maintain some distance from him.
Her thoughts ran wild, sleep eluding her until three in the morning when Milton, having finished his work, came into her room and settled beside her. He was gentle and cautious. She feigned sleep, and he simply spooned her from behind. He did nothing more.
A wave of relief washed over her, calming her mind. Her chaotic thoughts finally stilled and she succumbed to sleep, as her sleep had been restless the previous night.
When the alarm echoed in the morning, she was still drowsy, and under his soothing words, she drifted back into sleep.
Luckily, her villa was located close to the court. She could make it there in twenty minutes. She had to hasten. Perhaps, if she skipped breakfast, she might make it on time.

Putting on her lawyer’s robe, she dashed out of the walk-in closet, gathered all the materials for the trial, and rushed to the ground floor.
Reaching the living room, she was taken aback to see Milton, already dressed, waiting for her by the door.
Milton glanced at his wristwatch and declared, “We still have time. I’ll take you there.”
Swiftly, he unlocked the door.
The road ahead was clear, having been freed from obstructions since the construction work had been completed the previous evening. Consequently, his Bentley was conveniently parked at the villa’s entrance.
The villa was enveloped in an array of autumn colors. Fiery red maple leaves, golden apricots, and vast expanses of greenery created a captivating panorama. The artificial stream and the fountain emanated delightful sounds, filled with a sense of joy. The view was breathtaking. It felt as if they had been transported to a picturesque park.
