Chapter 396
Chapter 396:
Clutching her head, Erica shook it with agonizing intensity.
Thunder rumbled, drowning out her pained voice.
Candice failed to hear Erica’s words.
As Erica teetered on the edge of collapse, Candice moved to help her, but was pushed away.
“Leave me alone. Just go. Hurry up!” Erica snapped, her tone icy.
Biting her lip, Candice hesitated. A lot had already happened that night, and she didn’t want to make things worse.
She reluctantly turned to descend the rain-slicked steps. However, as soon as she turned around, someone shoved her forcefully.
Caught off balance by the slippery steps, Candice tumbled forward. She then rolled helplessly down the treacherous stairs.
Her mind went blank as she instinctively curled around her lower abdomen, offering protection.
The stairs, steep and slippery, seemed never-ending. Halfway down, she tried to halt her descent, but to no avail. Her forehead struck the cold steps, yet she felt no pain.
Her maternal instincts compelled her to shield her abdomen, even as she finally came to a stop at the base of the staircase, crashing into the parterre.
The rain poured down relentlessly, soaking her completely.
Lacking the strength to move, she could only lie on the ground. She began to lose consciousness, yet she was acutely aware of the blood seeping from her lower body.
Someone had pushed her down the stairs from behind! Neither Madilyn nor Rachel could have been responsible, as the police had already taken them away.
Only Erica had been behind her moments ago!
Could it be her?

Though she struggled to accept it, the truth was undeniable.
Simultaneously, Milton raced down the road in his Bentley. Rain pelted the windshield, obscuring his view, yet he continued to speed, heedless of potential hazards. Along the way, he attempted to call Erica, inquiring about Candice’s whereabouts. However, Erica didn’t answer. Candice’s phone was switched off.
His anxiety grew. Minutes later, he finally reached the Gold Well Hotel. Due to the downpour, he drove straight into the underground parking lot.
Milton leaped out of the car, closed the door, and made a beeline for the elevator.
As the doors slid open, two well-dressed ladies emerged, their voices loud and animated.
“Oh my God! What a shocking revelation. Greyson and his ex-wife divorced the day after their wedding. They’ve been keeping it a secret!”
“Yes, even though they divorced, Greyson’s mother still tried to hurt his ex-wife. She even plotted to cause her miscarriage tonight. What a ruthless woman!”
“She is his stepmother, after all. His cousin is also utterly shameless. She’s gone to great lengths to marry into the Harman family!”
