Chapter 45

Chapter 45:
“Wait, I’ll do it myself.” Candice’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment.
There had been no physical contact between them before, but once Greyson made up his mind about something, she had no way to stop him. So Candice took off her coat, revealing a thin blouse beneath.
Her right arm had been cut, and the blood had begun to clot.
Greyson lowered his head and carefully ripped off part of her sleeve.
The blood had dried, and the stained fabric clung to her arm. As it was removed, it felt as if the wound had reopened.
Candice clenched her teeth in pain but held herself together.
Greyson took iodine, hemostatic powder, anti-inflammatory powder, and gauze from the first aid kit.
He repeatedly wiped her cut with an iodine-soaked cotton swab.
The wound was quite severe.
Greyson’s icy demeanor softened slightly as he gently tended to her injury in the car’s dim light.
When he finished cleaning and bandaging the wound, Greyson looked at her and said, “About today, thank you for…”
But before he could continue, Candice interrupted him. “Don’t thank me. Bettina, not I, took on the case. In our law firm, she takes on cases, and I handle them. I acted only because I had the firm’s best interests in mind. Since I knew it was a forgery, I couldn’t stay silent for Universe Financial Group. So it’s only fair that you thank Bettina.”
As Candice spoke, she avoided his gaze completely.
She reached for the door handle, preparing to leave the car.
Greyson suddenly turned and placed his hand over the back of hers, firmly pulling it to prevent her from opening the door.
Candice, now wrapped by his arm, couldn’t help but slump back until her back pressed against the seat.
“Nonetheless, I’d like to thank you today.”
At that moment, Candice could almost feel Greyson’s breath on her as he spoke. He had never been this close to her before.
The closeness made Candice nervous. She cleared her throat but remained silent.
“Are you really his personal attorney?” Greyson asked with a puzzled gaze. Candice was dumbfounded.
There was no doubt he was referring to Milton.
Earlier, Milton had quelled Healy’s anger by claiming she was his personal attorney. Candice had been caught off guard by that.
Denying it now seemed futile.
She responded cryptically, “In a way. I took on a big case from him.”
“Is it just a professional relationship?” Greyson narrowed his eyes. When Milton entered the meeting room, there had been a strange tone and emotion in his gaze.
Greyson remembered Milton as an arrogant guy who never paid attention to any of the girls at school because he simply didn’t care.
The more Greyson thought about it, the more he suspected that Candice and Milton’s relationship was more complicated than it appeared.
At the same time, Candice shot Greyson a furious look.
“Our relationship is strictly professional. Are you done now? If you have no more questions, I will get out of the car.”
Greyson stopped questioning her. When he withdrew his hand, he said, “I’ll take you home.”
Home?! What home was he referring to? Probably the downtown apartment he owned. Hearing that upset Candice.
He had just hailed a cab to send Madilyn back to the Harman family’s house. Apparently, his girlfriend was feeling down. Didn’t…
“Are you going to return to comfort her?”
“There is still much on my plate. I do not want to be a nuisance to you,” Candice remarked coldly.

“It’s not a big deal,” Greyson insisted.
He then exited the vehicle and walked to the driver’s seat. “What’s your destination? I’ll take you there.” As he spoke, he fastened the seatbelt.
“To the law firm?” Upon seeing that she did not respond, he inquired again.
“Take me to Royal Garden Corporation,” Candice blurted out.
She was confused as to why she had said that. The moment she spoke, she thought of Milton, especially since Greyson had insisted on giving her a ride.
Greyson did, in fact, tighten his grip on the wheel.
At that moment, Candice’s phone started ringing. This was her business phone, not the one meant for casual usage.
She checked the caller ID first.
She didn’t recognize the number, but she had a guess about the caller.
She answered the call.
It was indeed his voice.
“Hi, Mr. Lopez,” she said.
