Chapter 303

Chapter 303:
“How high do you think our chances are?” Milton asked.
“Sixty or seventy percent. I found a breakthrough that might just turn the tides in our favor. I’ll write the defense now,” Candice replied, grabbing her briefcase and opening her laptop.
While checking the materials, she began writing the defense.
Sometimes she leaned against the back of the sofa, sometimes leaned forward with a serious expression, and sometimes typed furiously.
There were many moments when she held her head and contemplated while staring at her laptop screen.
Milton threw his arm over the back of his seat and watched her. It was late at night. He got up, went back to Raul’s apartment across the corridor, and took a shower. When he returned to Candice’s apartment, he found her sound asleep on the sofa.
Milton walked quietly to Candice’s side. She lay on the sofa, her beautiful eyes closed, long hair spread like a painting. The laptop rested on her legs, screen still illuminated.
It was obvious she was exhausted. She had fallen asleep while working on the defense.
Milton moved the laptop aside and bent down to pick her up. Sleeping on the sofa might give her a cold or a stiff back.
As he leaned closer, her breath brushed his face, and her slightly parted red lips tempted him. Unable to resist, he gently kissed her.
But he stopped suddenly, fearing he would lose control. He lifted her from the sofa and carried her to the bed.
Candice woke abruptly, shook her head, pushed him away, and slipped from his arms.
“I can’t sleep. I haven’t finished the defense. I’m going to take a shower to clear my head.”
With that, she walked to the bathroom and turned on the showerhead. The warm water poured down, gradually sobering her.

Afterward, Candice changed into pajamas and took the laptop to the study.
It wasn’t easy for her to fall asleep sitting at the table. Milton followed, frowning.
“Do you have to stay up late to finish it?” he asked seriously.
“Of course,” Candice replied, looking up. “You don’t have to wait here. I’ll submit it when I’m done.”
“I’ll stay here with you,” Milton said, settling into an armchair. He checked his phone while keeping her company.
Time flew by.
Candice diligently wrote her defense letter, carefully reviewing every detail. With only one chance to make a strong impression, she couldn’t afford mistakes.
Unnoticed, the clock struck past midnight.
When she looked up again, she noticed Milton lying on the sofa with his forehead propped up, his long eyes closed in a deep sleep.
At first, she didn’t want to bother him, but eventually, she got up and fetched a thin blanket from the room to cover him.
