Suddenly, there was a knock at the door.
Raul’s voice came from outside. “Miss Reeves, I’m truly sorry for what happened last night. I had too much to drink. I’ll be responsible for…”
Since he couldn’t remember, he assumed they had made love. Raul was a man and felt he had to take responsibility.
Bettina opened the bathroom door, startling Raul.
He held onto the door awkwardly. “Miss Reeves.”
Bettina glanced at him and flipped her short hair. “Mr. Hinks, even if we had sex, you don’t have to take it too seriously. It’s normal for men and women to have sex to satisfy their desires.”
Raul was taken aback. How could she be so casual about it? She didn’t seem to mind at all. He looked Bettina up and down. For the first time, he realized she was beautiful, neat, capable, and unruly. She looked truly seductive.
Raul felt his desires ignite and couldn’t help but take a deep breath. If they really had sex and he couldn’t remember it, that would be shameful.
Bettina pushed Raul away. “Don’t stand in the doorway. I have things to do. I’ll see you at work. We can talk then.”
Grabbing her phone from the head of the bed, she headed straight for the door.
As she opened it, she knocked on Candice’s door across the corridor, checking her phone for any messages. She knocked for a while, but there was no answer.
Bettina furrowed her brows, wondering if Candice had come back last night. Had something happened? It wasn’t like Candice to not go home at night.
Something was off, and Bettina felt a growing sense of unease. She happened to see the morning trending news as she looked at her phone.
There had been a string of breaking news from the ambassador’s wife’s birthday party, and one report caught her attention.
Someone had been pushed down the steps, suffered a miscarriage, and was rushed to Harmony Hospital. Bettina’s mind instantly went blank.

In a hurry, Raul changed his clothes and followed Bettina out.
He found Bettina standing in the corridor, looking visibly shaken, her hand trembling as she clutched her phone.
He asked with genuine concern, “What’s wrong?”
Without answering, Bettina suddenly took off, running as fast as she could.
“I have to get to Harmony Hospital. Something happened to Candice.”
Raul immediately chased after her and shouted, “Wait up!
“Let me drive you there. You could get into trouble if you rush there alone.”
“No, thanks,” Bettina coldly refused Raul’s offer and walked away without looking back. Raul hurriedly tried to catch up, but she had already hailed a taxi and was on her way.
Raul didn’t waste any time and hailed another taxi to follow Bettina. He also tried calling Milton.
