Chapter 687
Chapter 687:
Instead of answering her question, Raul responded, “You should eat something first. I made some coffee to help with your hangover. You were sick all night. You must be feeling awful. Also, what’s the code to your apartment? I’ll grab some clothes for you.”
With a furrowed brow, Bettina gave him the code to her flat. As Raul left, she sat down at the dining table. He had prepared a light pasta dish for her, a simple meal but one made with care. She took a bite. Though easy to prepare, it showed he had put in effort.
She took a sip of coffee. As she drank the last few drops, tears started spilling down her face.
Damn it all! This was madness! Why was she crying over someone like Bart? He wasn’t worth it.
She quickly wiped her tears away.
Raul returned with her clothes, noticing her tear-streaked face. Without thinking, he blurted out, “You can stay here. Be my girlfriend.”
Bettina froze, her gaze locking onto him, her tears momentarily forgotten.
After a long pause, she snapped out of her daze and nodded. “Alright.”
On the other side, in the Blake family’s villa, Candice slept soundly until noon, catching up on much-needed rest.
Last night, she had been restless, tossing and turning, unable to find sleep. It wasn’t until almost dawn that she finally managed to close her eyes and drift off. Perhaps Milton’s absence unsettled her. She seemed to have grown accustomed to his presence, and the previous night, he had not been there.
Such attachments could be unexpectedly poignant.
A sense of annoyance pricked at her, prompting her to rise from bed swiftly.
Her gaze landed on her mobile device.
Typically, she set her phone to mute before going to bed. Upon lighting up the screen, she noticed several missed calls, all from Milton.

It seemed he had reached his destination in Denmark.
His unsuccessful attempts to reach her by phone resulted in a series of WhatsApp messages waiting for her attention.
One by one, Candice opened and read them. A sudden flush crept up her cheeks as she digested the contents.
“Did I cause you any pain last night?”
“I apologize for my abrupt departure.”
“I’ll return as quickly as possible. Please wait for me.”
“Are you awake now?”
“Please contact me once you’re awake.”
She felt a mix of shame and anger. How could he ask such an ambiguous question? Why did he have to bring up what happened between them last night? It inevitably triggered thoughts of his untamed behavior in bed, stirring a flurry of emotions within her.
Upset and frustrated, she threw the phone aside.
