Chapter 316

Chapter 316:
However, if he didn’t agree to Milton’s proposition, it would look like he was admitting defeat—something he would never do. Greyson couldn’t admit defeat.
He took a deep breath and began, “Well…”
Milton curled his lips into a crooked smile and waved his phone at Greyson. “I’ll call first.”
Milton tapped his phone and dialed Candice’s number. The silence around him was deafening, amplifying even his every breath.
He chose not to use the hands-free mode, so only the faint sound of beeps from his phone could be heard.
After just two beeps, the call connected.
Greyson’s heart skipped a beat, a shadow crossing his face. He never expected Candice to pick up Milton’s call so quickly—it only took two beeps.
Milton lifted his eyes, brimming with pride, and held the phone out to Greyson. He shook it in front of him before bringing it to his ear.
Candice’s melodic voice greeted him. “Hey, what’s up?”
Milton’s tone softened as he spoke. “Nothing, I was just wondering what you’re up to.”
Meanwhile, at Sunrise Apartment, Candice checked her phone in confusion.
It was already past nine, so why was Milton calling her? His words sounded strange.
Impatiently, Candice replied, “I’m working on your case.” And it wasn’t a lie. She sat at her computer desk, surrounded by piles of documents. Recently, Milton had handed her several cases related to Erica, each one more complicated than the last. It was taking all her time and energy to find a solution.
However, she also had to review the surveillance footage from the Crowne Hotel on the night of her wedding with Greyson. That was what she was doing when Milton called.
Milton didn’t press her for more information.

Instead, he said softly, “I’ll call you back later.”
“Alright then,” Candice replied casually.
Milton hung up the phone in front of Greyson, not wanting to say too much in his presence. He slid the phone into his suit pocket.
He then shot Greyson a defiant look. “Your turn,” he said, pointing to Greyson’s phone.
Greyson’s face grew even more sullen, his chest tightening as he struggled to breathe.
He wasn’t sure if he should call Candice. It had been a while since she last answered his calls. In fact, Greyson had to visit her law office just to get a chance to speak with her.
Seeing Greyson’s hesitation, Milton sneered. “You’re afraid to call her, aren’t you? Her phone is right there in your hand.”
Greyson’s grip on the phone tightened as the screen lit up. The phone was in his hand, yet he couldn’t bring himself to press the call button.
