Chapter 981
Chapter 987:
“Enough. I understand. Now let go of me.”
Perceiving Kori as timid and frail, Candice attempted to hoist her up from the ground. She was aware that Kori wasn’t a bad person. Her intent was merely to scare her.
Now that Kori had been honest, Candice decided to cut her some slack. “Promise me you won’t send those documents to the prosecutor’s office,” Kori insisted.
“Fine, you have my word,” Candice conceded.
Only then did Kori release her grip. Standing, she chuckled. “Thank you! We have a deal.”
Surveying her surroundings, Kori announced, “I’m heading out. You won’t see me again, I promise.”
With that, she dashed toward the door but abruptly paused midway. The reason for her hesitation was remembering Milton’s extreme germophobia. In previous visits, she had always removed any items she had touched, and today she had even thrown up.
Offering an awkward grin, Kori quickly tossed a bag of damp tissues and a coffee cup into the trash can.
Holding the trash can, she offered a bow to both Milton and Candice.
“Mr. Lopez, Candice, I’m off. Goodbye.”
She then shut the door behind her as she made her exit.
Kori vanished in the blink of an eye.
Milton had observed the entire exchange, thinking Kori remarkably naive to spill her secrets at the slightest threat.
Now, only the two of them remained in the spacious office, surrounded by scattered files. The atmosphere grew increasingly stifling, far beyond mere awkwardness.

At that point, Candice had her back to Milton. She had decided to visit his office early today because she had already been aware that Kori was scheduled to visit the Royal Garden Corporation. Her intentions to confront both Maia and Kori had been set in motion long ago.
Everything did go as planned.
However, what Candice hadn’t foreseen was that Milton had involved himself with Kori because she had alerted the worker to assist them. Inhaling deeply, Candice gradually turned to face Milton.
Candice, having just driven Maia and Kori away, now found herself with a rare moment to fix her eyes on Milton. He stood not too far from her.
Her thoughts were a whirlwind, and she wanted to confront him about the lies he had spun. For the past two months, he had given her the cold shoulder, and there had been rumors surrounding him. But she had looked for evidence that promptly sent his alleged girlfriends packing.
