Chapter 48

Chapter 48:
At the office, an unusual tension hung in the air.
Raul pressed the print button and waited as the printer worked its magic.
Without delay, the printer spat out the contract. Handing it to Milton, Raul announced, “The contract version has been signed and sealed.”
Milton didn’t hesitate to sign his name as soon as he had the document in his hand.
Once both parties had signed, the contract was officially in effect.
Candice felt helpless, knowing there was no room left for her to protest.
To make matters worse, one of the signatories was her best friend, and the other was now her boss.
Feeling overwhelmed, Candice placed a hand on her forehead and slowly turned away. It was painfully obvious that Bettina had sold her out. Bettina’s actions left her feeling humiliated and embarrassed.
Milton’s keen eye caught a glimpse of Candice’s movement.
Instantly, he spotted the tear in her sleeve caused by broken glass. He hadn’t noticed it before since Candice had kept her distance and wore a black coat.
Suddenly, he rose to his feet. Without a word, he moved closer to Candice and began to remove her coat.
Raul watched in disbelief. He had known Milton for more than two decades, but he couldn’t fathom what his friend was doing.
Was he really about to strip Candice in the middle of the office? Were they going to seal the deal right then and there? There was no such clause in the contract.
The sight was too much for Raul to bear, and he averted his gaze.
He spun around and made a beeline for the door.
“I have an urgent meeting. I should go,” he muttered as a feeble excuse.
Without waiting for a response, he bolted out of the office as fast as his legs could carry him.
Just before he left, he pressed the button beside the door to lower the blinds.
Candice was dumbfounded and didn’t know how to react. Milton had already removed her coat, exposing her thin blouse and the bandage wrapped around her arm. She felt embarrassed.
Milton remained silent, his gaze fixed on Candice. He grabbed her arm and stared at the wound with his cold eyes.
Following his gaze, Candice finally realized that Milton had noticed her injury.
She was speechless. This man was really strange. How could he take off her clothes all of a sudden? At least Greyson would ask first and let her remove her clothes by herself.
Worried Milton might do something more outrageous, she quickly waved her hand and said, “It’s not a big deal. I’ve already bandaged it.”

Milton’s expression darkened. He thought it wasn’t enough that he had just punched Healy. Damn it! Healy forged the contract and even tried to hurt someone. Maybe the Glyn family was declining because the younger generation lacked proper education.
Candice’s wound was well treated, and Milton didn’t need to do anything more.
So he picked up his coat from the sofa and covered her with it.
“Let’s go.”
Grabbing her wrist, Milton pulled her out of the office.
The secretaries outside were shocked. They had never seen their boss touch a woman before. Usually, Milton kept more than a meter’s distance from women.
Milton dragged Candice all the way to the Bentley. When the car started, she couldn’t help but ask for the third time, “Where are we going?”
Her personal freedom couldn’t be restricted, even if her best friend had signed an unfair personal attorney contract on her behalf.
However, the man in front of her was arrogant. He didn’t say anything.
Finally, Milton stopped the car in front of a high-end clothing store.
Only then did Candice realize he had brought her here to buy clothes.
“Get out of the car.”
He got out first, walked to the passenger side, and opened the door for her. Though his movements were gentle, his voice was cold.
“No, I’ll go home and change,” Candice protested.
Milton interrupted her before she could finish, saying, “Do you really want to attend the party tonight dressed like that?” His disapproving squint made Candice feel a little self-conscious under his critical gaze.
