Chapter 939
Chapter 945:
Elmo continued with a suggestive undertone, “Remember, engagements are precarious. Anything is possible until one is wed.” A surge of anger threatened to consume Candice, her face darkening in response to Elmo’s audacity.
However, before her emotions could fully manifest, Elmo shifted his attention elsewhere, sensing the peculiar atmosphere surrounding them. A note of surprise crept into his voice as he remarked, “Strange, isn’t it? Why hasn’t he arrived yet?”
“He’s occupied with something important. He had told me about that.” Though uncertain of the truth herself, she hoped to smooth over the situation.
Elmo, choosing to remain silent, nodded in acknowledgment of her words.
Suddenly, a sharp female voice pierced through the air.
“Stop dreaming. He won’t come.”
It was a familiar voice.
In the midst of the dazzling engagement party, Candice was taken aback by the sudden appearance of Sigrid, clad in a fiery red dress, exuding an air of arrogance with her heavy makeup.
Coldly, Candice remarked, “Your presence here was never invited.”
Unfazed, Sigrid sneered. “I care not for your invitation. I’ve come to witness your downfall!”
In a protective gesture, Elmo swiftly shielded Candice, urging her to retreat. “What are you doing? Leave this place at once! It wasn’t the wisest decision to show up tonight.”
Indignantly, Sigrid retorted, “You’re my brother! How dare you support this wretched woman?”
“Enough! Mind your manners!” Elmo reprimanded.
However, Candice brushed him aside and boldly confronted Sigrid, demanding, “Leave now. You’re not welcome here!”

“Let’s see how confident you are later. Is the engagement celebration going to start soon? The important guests, your fiancé, and his mother have yet to arrive. You’re shameless, Candice. If I were you, I’d be too embarrassed to stay. Do you even grasp what’s happened? The one who should leave is you, or you’ll face even greater humiliation!” mockingly, Sigrid taunted.
Satisfied with her scheming, Sigrid reveled in her victory, having bribed her way in despite not receiving an invitation. She felt relieved the moment she noticed the absence of Milton and Erica. Erica kept her word.
Candice’s countenance changed, and worry etched onto her face. The engagement party was underway, but Milton, known for his punctuality, was nowhere to be seen! What could have happened?
Her thoughts were in disarray, and her breath grew unsteady.
Bettina and Raul arrived, drawn by the commotion.
Bettina stepped forward, protective of Candice, and glared at Sigrid. “Enough with your nonsense! Traffic jams during rush hours are common. Milton could be stuck in traffic.”
