Chapter 853
Chapter 856:
Yet her icy demeanor only intrigued Elmo more.
As he approached the exit, he stole a few more glances at Candice, hoping to commit her to memory. She was a fascinating woman indeed. “We’ll cross paths again,” Elmo extended a…
A courteous, cryptic smile lingered on Elmo’s face. Milton’s love interest was truly unique. Intriguingly, Elmo himself was captivated by her.
What was he to do now?
Suddenly, he found himself hoping to see Sigrid marry Milton. In such a scenario, perhaps Candice might end up with him instead.
Was it time to help Sigrid?
After Elmo’s departure, Candice resumed her pending tasks.
Shortly afterward, the receptionist delivered her afternoon meal. A single glance confirmed it had come courtesy of Milton.
She unwrapped the package while skimming through documents, revealing her favorite desserts. Milton knew her all too well.
A wave of longing swept over her. She yearned to wrap up her work and return home to be with Milton.
However, that morning’s revelation—that the last call to her mother came from Arlo—still weighed heavily on her mind. It had left her rattled.
A part of her wished for blissful ignorance, wanting to live each day as it came, unperturbed.
Wasn’t it good to live like this every day?
What compelled her to persist in her pursuit of the truth?
At night, Candice retreated to her home and collapsed on the couch to rest.
Roughly thirty minutes later, Milton made his entrance.
The faint noise of the door unlocking woke Candice instantly. She sat upright with drowsy eyes. Recognizing Milton’s return, she sank back into the couch and murmured, “I’m a bit worn out.”

Milton took a seat beside her and queried, “Did I keep you awake last night?”
Candice silently rolled her eyes. She had missed one night of sleeping with him, and he felt aggrieved.
“Weren’t you supposed to be in a meeting tonight?”
“I assigned Axell to handle it. I wanted to rush home to be with you.” Milton effortlessly brushed her untidy hair behind her ear before caressing her cheek.
“Is that significant?” Candice wiped her eyes and questioned.
“Being intimate with you matters more.”
Upon uttering those words, Milton scooped her up and headed straight for the bedroom.
Candice gazed at Milton, baffled. Could such a polished man utter something so candid? Her perception of him had shifted.
Midway through their intimate moment, Milton tilted his head down, nipping Candice’s earlobe. In a hushed, raspy voice, he whispered, “Focus.” A sharp twinge in her ear jolted Candice back to reality. Her sweat-dampened hair stuck to her flushed cheek, exuding a seductive appeal. Damn! She was spacing out.
