Chapter 948
Chapter 954:
“Tell me, why?” she managed to utter, determination bolstering her trembling voice.
A malevolent smirk crept across Milton’s face. “Why? Because I grew weary of you. It’s as simple as that!”
His callous words pierced through Candice’s heart like a thousand needles, leaving her feeling weak and vulnerable.
“No, tell me the real reason!” she insisted, mustering all her strength.
A sinister smile played on Milton’s lips as he replied, “Being tired of you is reason enough. Did you honestly believe I wanted to marry you? Our backgrounds don’t match at all. How could I possibly marry someone like you? Don’t delude yourself. This was all a game from the start! I must admit, your arrogance posed a challenge, and it took some effort to pursue you. I’ll even concede that your allure had me infatuated for a while. But once I slept with you, that was it! My goal was simply to conquer you. You, the haughty Miss Blake in public, were no different from any other woman who succumbed to my charms. That was a point I had to make clear. And now, I’m done playing. This is goodbye! The villa, car, and jewelry I bestowed upon you were rewards for your company during this little charade! You owe me nothing.”
He was so callous!
Each word he spoke cut deeper into Candice’s wounded heart. Summoning every ounce of courage, she looked into his eyes and whispered, “I love you, Milton. I love you!”
Beyond Milton’s wildest dreams, it happened as it did!
He unleashed a torrent of hurtful words, expecting Candice to recoil in pain, but to his astonishment, she bared her heart, confessing love she had concealed before. In their past together, she had always been reticent, never willing to utter the sacred word “love.”
As Candice looked at his stunned expression, a smile adorned her lips as she reiterated her confession.
“I love you. I fear that if I do not speak it now, there might never be a chance in the future.”

Milton’s lips trembled slightly, leaving him unable to find the right response.
At this moment, an enigmatic brew of emotions surged within him. He should have rejoiced, but instead, a sense of desperation overshadowed everything!
His deliberate hurtful words had been a ploy, an attempt to wound her deeply and push her away.
He knew all too well that her greatest fear was abandonment, yet he intentionally inflicted that pain on her. He had envisioned a lifetime of togetherness, never anticipating that reality could be so cruel. In his mind, he believed that making her loathe him now would be preferable to subjecting her to greater anguish in the future.
Candice, seeing that Milton was silent, flung herself into his arms without warning.
She felt she had no choice but to do what she had done because she loved him too much to risk losing him.
“Please, don’t do this. I don’t know what’s happened, but please don’t do this!”
