Chapter 955
Chapter 961:
“I will perform the surgery myself!” Greyson decided, taking a deep, steadying breath. With no other options available, he had to step in himself.
“Can you handle it?” Milton asked, his grip on Candice tightening.
“I am confident in performing a mitral valve replacement… But my worry is that it might not be enough. She could potentially need a coronary artery bypass grafting or atrial fibrillation radiofrequency ablation. If it comes to total aortic root replacement, I can’t do it alone. And I’m not the most experienced in these areas,” Greyson confessed, laying out his concerns.
As Milton grew more anxious, his voice rose in desperation. “This is a heart operation! The stakes are high. Any mistake could cost Candice her life! Your inexperience is astonishing! How could you treat this so—”
Greyson’s frustration flared at the doubt in Milton’s voice. “Do you think I’m oblivious to that? You are well aware of the danger she is in, aren’t you? So tell me, what did you do to put her in this dire situation?”
In a sudden surge of anger, Greyson leapt to his feet, gripping Milton by the collar. “You skipped the engagement party. What were you thinking? Did you take her away from me just to humiliate and abandon her? You’ve hurt her so deeply! How dare you question me now? Are you implying that I want her dead? Are you suggesting that I don’t want to save her? I love her! My love for her surpasses yours! My determination to save her is unmatched!”
Overwhelmed by his emotions, Greyson’s voice became a roar.
Unable to restrain himself, he struck Milton across the face.
Milton didn’t dodge. He knew he deserved it. Blood trickled from his lip, its metallic scent filling his mouth. The physical pain was insignificant to him. Regret churned within him. He had been unaware of Candice’s congenital heart condition.
Because of their dispute and fight, the ambulance even shook slightly, but it kept moving forward.
Greyson’s anger was uncontainable, seeking an outlet. Yes, he had acted wrongly, fostering discord between them. But if Milton truly loved Candice, this wouldn’t have happened. There was no denying Milton’s responsibility as the true instigator.

Observing that Milton didn’t retaliate, Greyson pinned him against the ambulance’s interior. His desire to inflict more pain was palpable. Suddenly, a paramedic in the ambulance shouted, “Stop! The patient’s heartbeat is erratic!”
Hearing this, Greyson released Milton and rushed to Candice. Studying her ECG data, his fear deepened. An ominous sensation settled over him. Milton stepped forward, clutching her cold hand. His voice trembled. “Can you hear me? Answer me! Don’t scare me. You must hold on!”
Unfortunately, his words were met with only silence. Candice remained unconscious, her eyes closed.
Thankfully, the ambulance reached St. Peter Hospital at last.
The medical team inside the ambulance was visibly distressed, beads of sweat forming on their brows. Urgently, they pushed Candice toward the resuscitation room. Kneeling beside the stretcher, Greyson initiated CPR on her.
A doctor’s commanding voice rang out. “Clear the area! Make way! Hurry up!”
Greyson gently pried open Candice’s eyelids, inspecting her pupils. He shouted, “Quickly! Dilated pupils, dropping blood pressure, weakening heartbeat! The patient is almost in shock! Prepare for dopamine and adrenaline injections!”
