Chapter 64:
Candice shook her head in denial. It was impossible.
The night of her wedding was during her safe period. Five days after that, she would begin her menstruation. Pregnancy had to be unlikely under such conditions.
As a result, she didn’t give it much thought. However, her menstruation was delayed by days. Could emotions have any bearing on it?
As a precaution, she thought taking a pregnancy test would be prudent. Why not, anyway?
Bettina came out of the restroom while she was mulling over the situation.
Together, they entered the VIP room.
Bettina had taken on another case shortly before today’s meeting ended. In fact, Bettina didn’t need to work to make ends meet. Her family’s fortune was more than enough to provide her with a very comfortable life.
Candice was aware that Bettina did this for her. So naturally, she felt indebted. There would never be a time when she’d say no to Bettina.
The client was the first to leave after signing the deal.
Bettina and Candice began organizing their files.
After finishing, Candice opened the VIP room door.
Greyson had unexpectedly been waiting outside.
She couldn’t believe her eyes.
As Greyson stood there, she couldn’t pass. He stepped inside, forcing her to retreat fully into the VIP room.
Bettina lifted her head and asked, “Why were you waiting outside, Dr. Harman? Do you want vindication on behalf of your girlfriend?”
Bettina deliberately referred to him as Dr. Harman. Greyson’s recovery of Harmony Hospital was widely publicized across the city.
It was reported that he had relocated his office to Harmony Hospital. It seemed he was determined to put the hospital back on track.
Candice grimaced and remained silent.
He had recently taken control of Harmony Hospital. How could he still find time to accompany Madilyn here, considering how busy he must be?
He always looked out for Madilyn, no matter what she did.
She tried her best to ignore them, but they kept appearing and irritating her.
“I want to discuss cooperation with you.” He handed Bettina a file bag.
“Oh, is that so?” Bettina said with a grin.
She pulled the contract from the bag and examined it cautiously. “The Harmony Hospital medical lawyer contract?”
She tossed the contract on the table, glanced at him, and said, “I’m sorry, Dr. Harman, but we really can’t handle disputes involving medical care perfectly. I think you’ve come to the wrong firm.”
“If you’re not ready to say yes right away, that’s okay. You are free to deliberate,” Greyson said, maintaining his calm demeanor.
Casting a quick glance at Candice, he asked, “Where were you last night? You didn’t come home.”
Just as Candice was about to say she had spent the night at Bettina’s, Bettina broke into a grin and said, “No idea. In any case, she didn’t sleep at my apartment. Wait! Have you been outside the apartment all night waiting for Candice? Otherwise, how would you know?”
Greyson’s expression shifted slightly. He said nothing but stared at Candice blankly.
Trying to avoid trouble, Candice offered a casual explanation. “I drank some beer and slept at a nearby motel.”
Greyson narrowed his eyes. He clearly didn’t believe her. Her words were untrue. She avoided meeting his gaze.
She left for Royal Garden Corporation yesterday and didn’t go home. Where had she been, and what had she been doing last night?
His heart pounded harder than before.
“Don’t do that again if you really want the patent.”
Candice clenched her fists.
Certainly, she was eager to acquire the patent along with all the associated rights and shares of her family business.
Greyson used what she desired most as a weapon against her.
Bettina sat on the sofa, staring intently at Greyson. “If there is nothing else, I’m off.”
Candice picked up her bag and walked past Greyson without replying.
Bettina stood and told him, “I’ll go back and review the contract carefully before getting back to you.” After that, she and Candice left.
The room was left with only the sullen-faced Greyson.
He pulled out his phone and called a judge at the court. Their two families had been friends for decades, and since the judge’s mother was hospitalized and required Greyson’s assistance, the judge was eager to help him.
“Please delete any references to my divorce from your records. Everything! I do not want anything revealed.”
After that, he ended the call.
He was in possession of Candice’s divorce decree. He had promised to hand it over to her a year later.
The look in Greyson’s eyes deepened, and his thoughts grew murky, even to himself.
