Chapter 398

Chapter 398:
“It’s within the realm of possibility! I eavesdropped on a conversation about it earlier but dismissed it as idle gossip. Now that Mr. Lopez has graced us with his presence, maybe he is searching for Greyson’s ex-wife.”
“Should we venture back to the banquet hall and see?” With their curiosity ignited, the two women hastened to rejoin the gathering.
Meanwhile, within the elevator’s confines, Milton’s anxiety swelled like a storm on the horizon. His emotions were a tangled mess, leaving him uncertain if joy should take precedence. Candice and Greyson had severed their ties long ago, and she remained single since then.
But why hadn’t she confided in him?
The only plausible explanation was that she and Greyson had struck a bargain, keeping their marriage under wraps.
He recalled the fervent kiss they shared in his office earlier, their lips colliding in a whirlwind of passion, and how she had eagerly reciprocated.
In the aftermath, he asked her when she would divorce.
Even now, her troubled gaze still haunted him.
Finally, the puzzle pieces clicked into place.
She said to him, “Do you think that I’m like you?”
At last, the profound truth behind her words revealed itself. She had been single all along, which was why she didn’t reject him. Yet, he had believed she was married and had disregarded that fact, engaging in immoral acts time and time again.
So, she told him she was different from him.
Milton’s head lowered, a wistful smile crossing his lips as a wave of relief washed over him.
He had finally learned the truth.
Candice had always been reserved and principled, making sure that she maintained her boundaries.

Now that she was divorced, they could be together without reproach.
The elevator reached its destination, and the doors opened slowly.
Due to his impatience gnawing at him, Milton repeatedly jabbed the elevator’s open button. He couldn’t bear to wait a moment longer.
As the elevator doors finally parted, he strode into the banquet hall while dialing Erica’s number. Despite his numerous attempts, she never picked up the call.
The dimly lit hall, punctuated by sultry tango music, was filled with couples swaying to the rhythm, a seductive atmosphere enveloping the space.
Milton’s abrupt entrance drew the gaze of many guests.
Wealthy women approached him, eager for a dance with him. Annoyed, Milton declined, weaving through the sea of dancers in search of Candice, but she remained elusive.
With every passing second, his anxiety grew.
As he stood amidst the dancers, his eyes darted around, oblivious to the fact that he had become the center of attention.
