Chapter 355
Chapter 355:
Why?
The more he thought about it, the more confused he became. He took a deep breath and decided to stop overthinking.
Jarrod drove swiftly to East Hospital, but by the time they arrived, it was already past six.
“Sir, the doctor may have already left for the day. Why don’t we come back tomorrow?” Jarrod suggested thoughtfully.
However, Milton was too anxious to wait until the next day. He was determined to know the results today.
“Find Mr. Becker and tell him I’m here. Ask him to check the system to see who Candice’s doctor was and find out where the doctor is. If the doctor has gone home, get me their home address.”
“Yes, sir. Please wait here. I’ll handle it right away.”
Jarrod parked skillfully and quickly went to carry out Milton’s instructions.
It was getting dark. Milton sat alone in the dimly lit car, confusion etched across his face.
About an hour later, Jarrod returned.
He walked briskly back to the car and reported, “Sir, the doctor who attended to Candice today was Essie Murray. She left work at five and is currently at home. Pregnancy-related reports are kept confidential to protect patients, so we need Essie’s authorization to view the files. Mr. Becker called her and got her to rush back to the hospital to assist with checking. We need to wait for her here.”
“Okay,” Milton agreed with a nod.
He looked out the window. It was dark now, but the street lamps were lit, their faint blinking reflecting his anxiety.
At the Gold Well Hotel, the wife of the Yamonia ambassador was celebrating her birthday tonight.
The Yamonia custom was to send invitations well in advance, so the invitations had been sent more than a month prior. To avoid scheduling conflicts, everyone marked the day on their calendars and planned accordingly.

The Gold Well Hotel was a popular gathering place for notable figures in arts, entertainment, politics, and commerce. The interior was exquisite, featuring a golden dome, stone walls, and priceless artwork carved into the furniture. A red carpet lined the floor, and flowers adorned the doorway. In the center stood a large fountain with multicolored lights hidden beneath the water’s surface, casting a brilliant glow that revolved around the room.
Candice arrived promptly at six o’clock after returning home to change into her dress.
This was a birthday celebration she had to attend. She had received two invitations: one sent to Hope Law Firm inviting her as the lawyer Candy, and the other sent to her as the “wife” of Greyson.
On her way there, Greyson contacted her via WhatsApp.
“Have you arrived yet? I’ll show up a little later. The procedure is still ongoing.”
