Chapter 970
Chapter 976:
Greyson held her more tightly, his tone filled with sincerity. “I’m not that shallow, Candice. You underestimate me.”
He might have minded it in the past, but now he genuinely didn’t. If he could regain what he had lost, he would have no other requests. “Okay. Even if you don’t mind, I can’t fall for you.”
A blank look washed over Candice’s face, and she confessed, “I used to be obsessed with you. I always thought it was love. I didn’t realize it wasn’t until I crossed paths with Milton and had something to compare it to. I was just stubborn in the past ten years. But it’s different now.”
Stepping out of his embrace, she pointed towards her heart. “Now, my heart is empty. I can’t fill it anymore. I’ve given my heart to him, and I can’t retrieve it for the rest of my life. So, don’t waste your precious time on me. It’s meaningless.”
The once warm expression on his face grew colder and more distant, replaced by complete disappointment. He asked, “What are you going to do? Are you going to find him?”
Instead of answering his question, she glanced at her wristwatch and calmly stated, “I don’t have much time left. I’ve booked a flight to Thonde this evening. The human rights case I took over abroad a long time ago is finally going to trial. I have to deal with it myself. I had responsibility for my case.”
She knew that Greyson was unaware that the overseas human rights lawsuit was Milton’s first case she had taken over.
She had to finish it in person.
“Goodbye, Greyson,” she uttered softly.
As she spoke, she rose onto her tiptoes and planted a gentle, polite farewell kiss on his cheek.
Taking her suitcase back from Greyson, she left the VIP ward without looking back.
Watching her retreating figure, he suddenly collapsed onto the sofa.
It was the first time she had ever kissed him. It might have seemed like they were close, but he was acutely aware that the moment her lips left his, it marked a clear line of farewell. A profound emptiness consumed his entire being.

Even if he desperately wanted to deceive himself, he couldn’t ignore the truth: he would never get her back. As she had said, he had saved her—an even exchange. He even had a hunch.
Candice wouldn’t give up Milton easily.
He saw determination and tenacity burning in her eyes.
At that moment, Greyson’s heart was overwhelmed by a deep despair he had never experienced before. Candice didn’t want the shares of the Blake Group, and Milton had abandoned her. She still hadn’t turned around. Greyson had no reason to hold onto her. Everything was over.
Leda entered the room, her observant gaze focused on Greyson’s expression.
She said, “Principal Harman, the Harman Group is urgently requesting your presence at the board meeting. You should head there now.”
“Got it,” replied Greyson with a touch of indifference, lifting his head.
